I've been watching my weight a bit, and I can fit in to wallis, next, monsoon, fcuk size tens, but not a top shop sizze ten., or anything remotely designery or high-end. So am I size ten or not?!!

Waht do you all think?

I think Monsoon are massive too, I was lookimg for wedding outfits this summer and lots of dresses that would have been lovely just hung like sacks on me.

In the end I got my three wedding guest dresses from Hobbs, Warehouse and Karen Millen, all size 8 and all fit fine though in some styles in KM an 8 was too tight on my arse for my liking but a 10 had enough room for another person!

In Next 8's are too big but in a 6 top my shoulders are far too wide and kind of poke out at the top of the sleeves iyswim.

lovecat · 17/09/2008 20:17

size 10 in F&F, Tu, Next, Hobbs, Monsoon, New Look, Principles, M&S and Boden.

size 12 in Topshop, Primark, H&M, Miss Selfridge and most designery or ultra cheapo stuff.

I was a size 10 some 20 years ago when I moved down to London and still have a very bodycon, gorgeously 80's suit that I bought in a designer sale - when I lost my weight earlier this year I dug it out and tried it on again - could barely fit one thigh into the mini skirt!!

TheNaughtiestGirlKeepsaSecret · 17/09/2008 20:18

High end clothes still give me a low-slung end.

LOL at deluded old lady sizing!! My Mum thinks she's size twelve.. So it clearly works.

NotQuiteCockney · 17/09/2008 20:19

Oh god, I'm a 14 in Topshop, when I'm fighting trim, but I'm a 10 in some Fat Face or White Stuff items. It's annoying.

M+S sizes are insanely big.

It could be worse, a friend went into a shop in Toronto, and couldn't fit into a large. I think she's a size 8 or 6 here, she's really tiny. (And no, it wasn't a kid's shop.) In Canada there is no pretense that all sizes are the same.

PavlovtheCat · 17/09/2008 20:19

this is the right size of tent

PavlovtheCat · 17/09/2008 20:20

LOL i thought you said what size is a proper sized tent how embarrassing!

[giggles]

SheikYerbouti · 17/09/2008 20:21

I have a size 10 skirt from Primarche and I am F.A.T.

I am def not a size 10 in RL, more like a size 100

cheesesarnie · 17/09/2008 20:23

i agree next sizes are big.i got trousers from there and am frantically trying to shrink them in the dryer!

anyfucker · 17/09/2008 20:24

I find it annoying that in Zara and Mango I am a size large.

I am a size 10-12 everywhere ffs !!

I think I must be River Islands size 12 model. Everything I try on in there fits me like a glove.

I find Next trousers too small. Strange eh?

TheNaughtiestGirlKeepsaSecret · 17/09/2008 20:26

I guess it's a good way for shops like Kookai and Jane Norman to keep out oldsters and fatties.

Does Kookai even go up to a size 14. They used to do that 38/40 sizing. Hated it.

SheikYerbouti · 17/09/2008 20:28

I find Next clothes really odd shaped too. They always look shit on me.

lovecat · 17/09/2008 20:32

Next's tops are bizarre - they seem to be made for very wide-shouldered women with posh spice breasts (ie huge mounds glued to your sternum some three inches beneath your chin). I always feel like their jackets are wearing me rather than the other way round.

Wallis I find a very confusing shop. You must be at least 6ft to wear their trousers/long dresses/long coats, their tops are for mahoosive-breasted women with arms that drag on the floor, yet have tiny wasp waists and no hips for their skirts/trousers....

TheNaughtiestGirlKeepsaSecret · 17/09/2008 20:45

Next do the same clothes every year don't they? How have they got away with that for so long?

I only have about two next items in my entire wardrobe.
Honest gov.

cheesesarnie · 17/09/2008 21:01

for some reason i keep getting the catolgue.i once tried getting age 14 as size 6 was too big.age 14 was even bigger!

anyfucker · 17/09/2008 21:04

ewwwww, I hate Jane Norman clothes

they often seem to be in that horrid colour combo of yellow/black/electric blue/sugar pink

yes, I have one item of next clothes, a slobby pr of trackies I wear for housework

(apologies to anyone who loves the above)

SheikYerbouti · 17/09/2008 21:06

Next tops are also extraordinarily short.

filthymindedvixen · 17/09/2008 21:10

I am an 8-10. M&S are large. So are Asda. So are Next.
Gap are very variable. I have one size 8 garment that is too big. One skirt I bulge out of (8) and a size 1 which hanges down by by hips.
I am too old for topshop!
Bay is about bang on
H&M is bang on. Monsoon is variable IMO.
Warehouse and Oasis are good for sizes, as are Oasis.

WilfSell · 17/09/2008 21:14

You are all showing off so us fat birds can glower and piss off back to Evans and Bon Marche and M&Farking S.

Stop complaining. At least you can shop on the high street.

georgimama · 17/09/2008 21:14

I haven't been a size ten since I was about 13.
I do find that if you don' want to feel old/fat/ugly you need to avoid Topshop (you are over 21 aren't you?) and shop in grown up shops ie Wallis/Hobbs/Phase 8/Monsoon/Crew

themildmanneredstalker · 17/09/2008 21:15

never been a size 10 so would really have no clue.

cheesesarnie · 17/09/2008 21:19

WilfSell-cant shop on high st thats my point
