What to wear to my son's Christening? Pear shape, temp high 20's. Please help.

Having previously had great help on this section, I'm at your mercy again:
What do you wear to your dc's Christening?? Obviously not all "Ascot", but I'd like something a little more special than normal church/wedding wear.

It's abroad, so temperates will probably be in the high twenties, possibly low thirties. The day will be Christening at around 11am followed by a small reception type thing.

I can kick myself for not having sorted something out earlier as it is winter stuff everywhere I look now. I'm guessing I might have to look in the party wear section to get summery outfits, and then cover up a bit. Any ideas? Thank you very much.

Oh, and I'm 1.67m, around 68kg, pear shape.

If it helps, I'm size 14 (especially over the hips).

I have a black silk shift (picked up in Next sale in January for £2 - bargain!), which i will wear a cream wool coat over as October in Wales makes that important LOL!!

I wore a dress that was a black skirt with an ivory pan colared top that was very bluse like to my sisters but my bil turned up in jeans so felt very OTT.

I would wear a dress, v neck, sleeveless and A line. Patterned. And some funky wedges.

Peachy, that sounds lovely! I really wish I could be more organised and remember to buy things in the sales...

I love black (as my wardrobe can clearly reflect), but as I can't wear a coat or anything lighter to break it up, not sure if it'll be ok for the Christening. Dh always moans about the lack of color, and normally I can't be bothered about it, but am thinking on this one occasion I should probably take his likes into account. This, however, creates a problem, as everything I like is black! Dear oh dear.

Ok, I know this won't work for this occasion, but it is really beautiful, don't you think??

Ds will be Christened in something traditional (still have to decide on style, but might be a gown, probably raw silk or something). So taking that into account - should I go for something "understated" or doesn't it matter?

And if color, what color would work?

Maidamess, re the patterned, one or two colors only with patterns on it, or mixed?

I would prob go into Monsoon its much easier to choose in person and they have more choice. Best shoice of posh frocs all year round IMO, Coast also worth a look.

Peachy, we seem to like the same dresses - I loved the zigzag one (but not sure if too casual for the occasion - old fashioned church etc) - might try it on for myself anyway. Love the kimono, but want to see in person (don't normally wear satin, but love the cut and arms). Somewhat unsure about the champagne one (maybe too much white with my hips?)

Ok, I'll go to Bluewater this weekend to inspect in rl and will report back Saturday night. Please feel free to give any more suggestions if you see any.

Other question - what shoes? I guess I should decide on the dress first, but if for example the Vivien dress - black high heel sandals? And if black and white (say zigzag or kimono) - would they do as well?
