Explain 'school run' clothing please

The whole 'school run' thang is mentiond so often on mn but I still don't get it.

It implies that the social biggie of the day is dropping off your kids in front of a lot of other mums and, also, that these other mums are going to be taking note of your outfit.

But that can't be the case. Can it?

there have been threads about what you wear to walk along to school and what the other mums wear and stuff.

I couldn't believe that people think that hard about it - you get up, you put on clothes - that's it really.

I remember sundresses (in the dim and distant past) - in fact,I have one from Boden no less but think it will probably just stay in the wardrobe now until next "summer" [hm]

cod. Not sure I understand but I like it anyway.

gosh, how surprising that a phrase has been misunderstood and then reacted to by all of mn in stressy 'will i measure up??' terms or stressy 'fuck off i dont need to measure up' terms.. how terribly unusual for that to happen on here...

School run clothing is clothing suitable for wearing on the school run.

Simple as that.

No more.

No less.

..and bereft of controversy/innuendo as a phrase.

I take great delight in wearing my dog walking kit as I'm either on the way (morning) or way back (afternoon) from that particular chore. I often feel distinctly underdressed but just can't be bothered to "compete".

Some people do take the school run thing too seriously!
