Are you ever shocked how *old* you look in a mirror?

Have just spent 2 hours in hairdressers. Most of it was spent without specs on as they faffed around with my hair.

So finally put specs on to admire hairstyle (which was v nice) but look old old old, and yet feel 24. In fact I can't believe I don't look 24, and am really shocked to see middle aged frump looking back at me!!!

I love clothes, but have convinced myself I look old and frumpy in all of them. Wore one of those printed t-shirts, and thought I looked good, and then caught glimpse of middle aged women in a shop...and realised it was me

Shirt now residing in bin.....Does anyone else ever feel shocked when they look in the mirror?

Being heavily pregnant I'm always shocked when I catch sight of myself in a shop window/mirror and see a totally different image to what I imagined staring back. I notice the double chin and the armulite and try to tell myself its just because I'm pregnant and I'll lose all the extra weight in a few months and be back to looking how I used to! (if anyone's interested there are before and current pics on my profile!)

pmsl @ madbad's dd saying

'"but mummy you look old and ugly without me'

MadBadandDangeroustoKnow · 22/08/2008 15:57

Yes, it is mortifying but - although it pains me to admit it - the ruthless logic of a six year old can be very funny. So I thought I would share the mirth.

I never really understood that gravity thing but now I feel like my cheeks are falling off my face and every time I look in the mirror I can't help pulling them up.

Have also just been to th hairdressers. Thought I looked ok then hairdresser said something that made me laugh and the lines! The lines! Where the hell did they come from?

I never understood it either until now

Definite pouching

ellideb -you look lovely before bump and with bump.

I'm sure you will lose the baby weight, you look all "baby" to me

Loving "armulite"

Vulgar- thanks for the vote of confidence, just feeling a tad 'pregnant' at the mo!

my grandma used to say to me when she was in her 80's that she was always shocked to see the old lady in the mirror- she expected still to see the young woman she used to be.
