Im going back to work as a coffee shop manager after 4y of sitting at home with mn ds. I start on the 15th but have 8w training first and i have been told to wear "business attire" for work. I have a couple of black suits, but need a bit.. more the shop is within a clothes shop. the clothes need to be easy to move in.

i am very petite (size 6-8 and 5'2") with larger norks d v narrow hips. my hair is dark chestnut (but more red tbh) and my skin is pale olive.

please help me

I think wrap dresses are fine as long as they're not too low.

OracleInaCoracle · 21/08/2008 15:07

thanks. what i really need is help assembling a work wardrobe! so i could wear a wrap dress with a cami underneath, but im totally clueless on this now.

Depending on budget Hobbs have some lovely work attire at the moment.

OracleInaCoracle · 21/08/2008 15:11

cheap as possible really. am starting from scratch!

I have these trousers and the violet top shown below them.

I also have a long sleeved number in the same violet from Boden to go with them.

What about Next? They usually have work wear.

Fimbo · 21/08/2008 15:15

Arrgh one of those links that doesn't work properly - click on Christobelle.

OracleInaCoracle · 21/08/2008 15:16

ooooh lovely, bit out of my price range though

M&S Limited Collection and Autograph are normally good for work trousers and smart pencil-type skirts; also Principles Petite range.

blithedance · 21/08/2008 22:33

I am going back in just over 2 weeks - nothing from 3 years ago fits and what does looks cheap and dated.

I am going to try and get a session with the Debenhams personal shopper and get her to pick out two decent outfits, one black trousers based and one grey or brown trousers based. I was thinking Principles kind of price range too.

I am very clueless with fashion so I do need someone to show me a whole top/trousers/cardigan outfit or whatever.

thank you all. the shop is BHS, will def try zara though. i love their clothes!

OP posts:
janeite · 22/08/2008 14:27

Zara is only good for tops;the trousers are really, really long!

Fimbo · 22/08/2008 15:37

Lissie is probably one of the few lucky people that will actually fit a pair of Zara trousers. They definately cater for the slimmer of those amongst us

EffiePerine · 22/08/2008 15:39

smart trousers

nice tops

jacket (that will go with several outfits)

accessories

Fimbo · 22/08/2008 15:40

Do BHS do size 6-8? Will you get staff discount?

I know their stuff is a bit twee but you should be able to get a decent pair of black trousers.

janeite · 22/08/2008 15:52

Yes, deffo for the slim Fimbo - but also for the v tall and Lissie is (like me) 5'2"! I suppose the trousers could be shortened but sometimes it makes them look quite "boxy".

Next irritates me beyond belief but the Petite trousers in there are just the right length for me.

I think (based on my experience of BHS, which is limited) that so long as you avoid the black trousers and white shirt look, you will be far more fashionable/better dressed than any of the other staff!

Fimbo · 22/08/2008 15:55

Oops didn't see the height bit!

OracleInaCoracle · 22/08/2008 16:09

thanks, i will get my discount when i have been there for 12w (40% off workwear)
