apple shape, 5ft 3. 14 stone (and yes I know I am very overweight and need to eat less pies) But in the meantime would like guidance on flattering everyday clothes. Absolute worst features are stomach and beginnings of double chin. How should I make the best of things?

I'd go to one of dept. stores and get the srvices of a personal shopper.

TotalChaos · 19/08/2008 19:35

hmmmmm not a bad idea but my budget is really rather more Primark than Debenhams these days.

Budget not an issue. They'll do it regardless. G'wan, live a little! Some free expert advice will pay dividends and be a larf.

i am pear shaped and curvy

invest in GOOD underwear - can really help

boob uplift can give you more of a waist/shape

good knickers can give you smoother sillhouette as well

i find layering is good

long shirt dresses over bootcut or skinny jeans and a bit of a heel to elongate legs

What size do you wear? Evans are bluddy good but are you more after style tips than retailers? I do love Gok and that man talks a lot of sense ref making best of self but he is mainly touting his wares via Dotty Perkins- not sure what they go up to size-wise...

lizandlulu · 19/08/2008 19:58

i find evans not too good when you are short though, everything seems to be 7 foot tall. they do do some short things, but not many.
you cant be that big, i am 5ft 4 , 16 stone and a 22 so guessing you are about a 16?

v necks are good to distract away from double chin area, but i ma not very good at other advice. although i do think long tops over long trousers will make us shorties look shorter.

TotalChaos · 19/08/2008 23:12

Thanks for the tips ladies. I'm an 18 both ends. I find it hard to get trousers the right length, unless I go somewhere that does short length.

Wide leg black trousers WITH HEELS (wedges usually more comfortable)

NEVER wear high necked tops - it will create an expanse of chest ending unter your chin, framing it nicely - go for v necks, and either diagonal capped or 3/4 length sleeves.

Then make sure your hair and makeup is immaculate, buy a big, bright handbag and matching chunky bangles. The bigger your accesories, the smaller you look.

ThatBigGermanPrison · 19/08/2008 23:27

I was this size and shape for a very long time so I know what I am on about.

TotalChaos · 19/08/2008 23:34

thanks, v. useful tips. suspect hell will freeze over before I go out with immaculate hair or make up though . that big accessories thing is genius, would never have occurred to me.

PS the bag should be BIG but not LONG. And don't wear a top longer than just under your bum - I suspect if you are apple shaped you can get away with quite slim fitting trousers anyway - I doubt you have a big arse.

ThatBigGermanPrison · 19/08/2008 23:42

If you wear a pendant have it long enough to be well away from your chin - but not dangling in your cleavage.

ThatBigGermanPrison · 19/08/2008 23:56

this with these - quick while they still have 18s and this and this with some really well applied rich smokey purple eyeshadow - unless you are blonde, in which case I would go for red accessories with a smoky grey and silver eyeshadow.

Not that I'm shallow.

thanks for the links TBGP, will try and go instore to try on, not sure top will look good. Love the necklace!
