Practical footwear?

Does anyone have any tips for any good walking footwear? I take DD out in the pram in all weathers and get really fed up with the bottom of my jeans being sopping wet when I get home. I was thinking of something like uggs (so I could tuck my jeans into them) but then I heard they weren't waterproof. Any ideas?

Thanks - never thought of wellies - but I was hoping for something a bit more trendy that the full country look! Definately worth considering tho.
