wedding outside UK but full of chi chi londoners and new yorkers, will I be a frump?

My dh's boss is getting married in a month here and we live not too far away and are invited. The boss and gf are totally loaded, house in London, NY, Bahamas type of thing, but very unaffected. They claim it is small and casual, but what does this mean? What is de rigeur for UK weddings this season and will I stand out as an outdated, living overseas, frump, if I go in my (new) Boden wrap dress???

I have the same dillema marg ! I am going to a posh wedding and have no idea what evrryone is wearing and am afraid I am going to stand out. I have bought a very posh dress but feel overdone although evryone keeps telling me I look a million dollars, i would rather wear my jeans!! i would say wear what you are comfy in then at least you are being yourself. Don't really do Boden but I am sure it would nbe fine

Widgy,I am happy in my boden dress, but think these people may see it as too 'everyday'?? What is your dress like? I would have to buy something here which is possible though a bit limiting and quite pricey. In addition the company conference is here the next week and we have a cocktail party for 120 at our house for which the boden dress would do perfectly, but obviously I can't wear it twice!!! Dilemma dilemma.

Is it a daytime or evening do?

Will the weather be warm?

Would you be able to order something over here and have it arrive in time?

Is there a good dressmaker you could use? Bet your housekeeper knows one.

Ooooohhhh Widgy I love it! I will defintely be too dressed down in a Boden wrap then, compared to that, and to the one you are hoping to wear Jam. I think I need to up the ante a bit. So since you are both going bandeau, is this the in look at the moment? Not such a good look for me as i am boobless. If so I shall get looking.

Jam, the wedding is at quite a high altitude and will be at 4pm (with the dc )so will be warm but with a slight chill. No i can't order something in time from the UK, unless I know for sure that someones is coming out from dh's office soon, will check that out. So it does have to be from here.

Yes I could have something made, but tbh I don't yet know any good 'stitchers' as they call them here and I can't take a risk, though there is one woman who makes a lovely satin sundress with a hint of Maasai beading, not cheap but I could wear it again to a ball or something.

However friend suggested I looked at Phase Eight web site. Even if you don't buy from there, going through all the various collections will give you good ideas.

I wear bandeau usually because it suits me . i am size 8 with 32d boobs so I can fill it without spilling over. halter necks etc require all sorts of planning on the boob front whereas that dress I can just wear a strapless bra and all sorted.
You don't think its a bit posh though? I really don't want to stand out!!

It will be warm like late afternoon in an average UK summer, but because of the altitude when you are in the shade it gets quite chilly so I will need a cardi/wrap type of thing.

What about those fascinator-type thingies for the hair, do people still wear those??

So it's ok to wear black? I do have a little black number with a hint of bronze I could wear if I spruce it up with a pair of bronze strappy sandals... Just looking at Coast now..

It's on the slopes of Mount Kenya, in the highlands. In one of Kenya's premier hotels no less But it will be outdoors.

Yes, that is nice, red is good for me. Strikes a good note between posh enough and casual enough.

Now I just have to see if I can find something similar here! If not then i may have to ask my dsis to dhl it to me in desperation!!

Master, something slinky which is halterneck and low cut would be fab on you. You do have a fab figure > You could then add a wrap for the chilly bits.
