Do I want a kaftan for my dreaded holiday? If so, which one?

I have a poolside problem

We are going away with PILs and BILs and just oh ALL of dh's family - it's awful actually, and I am repressing it and not thinking about it - EXCEPT I woke up last night thinking about the swimming pool.

Then I thought, I need a kaftan.

I looked at some on Toast but they looked too short.

Oh no SSS I don't think I am the sexy type at all.

I am the terrified in a swimsuit type with all my ILS.

But the Ghost one looks floaty enough to be generous, and also attractive? I don't think I could do a t-shirt type dress like Swedes suggested. I'd look like a potato.

And agree re all others being see-through. I am going for cover up not suggestive poolside wear. [faints at the thought]

Thank you all so much for help. I shall sleep tonight.

100x Oh please don't go. Can't we discuss poolside footwear now?

SSSandy2 · 30/07/2008 21:40

I haven't seen this ghost one so dunno what we're talking about.

Never mind. Never stopped me talking before.

Why are you going on holiday with them though? Why?!

ahundredtimes · 30/07/2008 21:41

Oh yes please!

Actually can't we just talk about the bloody holiday?

Right. Footwear.

I need flip flops, and I need some nice sandals with a heel, or maybe I need wedges.

i also need to get my hair done. Not sure why, just realize nothing has happened to my hair for about 6 months. I might dye it.

Anything else?

Am impressed that oranges has a dress for sundowners. Might need one of those too?

[breathless]

SSS see below, orange linked to it. I've now bought it. I buy anything I'm told to actually. Except I once bought a pair of trousers LL told me to, and they had to go back.

Foxinsocks told me to buy some shoes - i bought those.
Cod told me I needed necklaces - I've been buying MASSES.

yes get your hair done but get it dyed professionally - risky dye + sun and chlorine.

Other thing you need is a big bottle of laxative. Slip it in their cocktailswhen they get nasty and that'll keep them indoors and away from the pool, see?

SSSandy2 · 30/07/2008 21:46

oh yes that's nice, don't know why it is ghosty though.

Caftans I inspected were all floaty blurred blue shades with sequins on them (maybe because we were in Egypt and they had bought them all there?) They were quite long sort of down to the knees. I'm sure I should have bougth some when we were there but I was too busy doing aqua aerobics in Italian and then recovering from it the rest of the day.

oi · 30/07/2008 21:50

hey presto and I appear. What colour did you buy ?

I have a wedding on Saturday and may have to wear gold dress for 10000 time grrr because there appears to be nothing in the shops that isn't hideous or v expensive.

Let's do more clothes for your holiday. I think it is FUN to spend money and try and not think about the horror.

oranges · 30/07/2008 22:03

the ghost kaftan is for sundowners. i don'thave a separate outfit for it. though i have a long silver necklace i may slip on. (my holiday is all of 4 days long, but that isn't stoppping me fantasy-dressing.

And ghost is the label.
footwear huge problem. i'm thinking bikenstocks - to stop glam kaftan looking too bling.

SSSandy2 · 30/07/2008 22:07

Which birkenstocks though, some of them are so clumpy looking even if they are comfortable? Those ones with just one strap in the front might be quite nice, you know the ones look a bit like scholls

SCholls would make a good weapon

oranges · 30/07/2008 22:08

those one strap ones are the ones i mean, though it had never occured to me they look like scholl.you are right, they do.

SSSandy2 · 30/07/2008 22:10

I like being right

She also needs a bag surely

ahundredtimes · 30/07/2008 22:10

God, I quite want bling you know, just to cheer me up on this holiday. I want to shine and sparkle in quite a vulgar way. Besides, I've been buying necklaces because I was told to.

NO oi. You WILL find a cheap dress as all the sales are on. Even Jigsaw have done theirs early.

Let's find you a wedding dress. Gwan.

I bought the blue. Is that wrong do you think? I think it'll be okay, I go quite brown quite quickly. Was worried the red might match my cheeks?

OP posts:
SSSandy2 · 30/07/2008 22:15

you could be a bit brown before you went?

I like it in blue. So how about these sandals with a heel then?

oranges · 30/07/2008 22:18

why would blue be wrong? I got the pink but I;m dark skinned. The blue was lovely though I dithered for ages.

ahundredtimes · 30/07/2008 22:33

Only because oi said she was worried, and so I thought she was going to say - fgs don't get the blue.

I like the blue anyway. It is very swimming pool

OP posts:
oi · 31/07/2008 07:36

oh yes, I thought the blue was good.

not that the pink was bad, oh no, but I thought the blue was more you.

I like the way it's called Mojito too.

yes, I get those bhs dresses or the 100% cotton cheapies from that cheap mail order place

oi · 31/07/2008 07:53

ahhh bon prix that's it

oi · 31/07/2008 07:54

a lot of it is crap but I got these long cotton dresses last year and wore them a lot on the beach

these ones

they are that soft cotton iykwim

I imagine if you have decent legs, the short ones would be quite comfy (there are nicer shorter ones that those I think)
