Funeral attire

I have my grandpas funeral next week.
I don't really own black smart clothes but do have a dress I wore to a wedding, it is black but has white swirly bits near the hem. It also has shoestring type straps.
Is this wholly inappropriate.
I have very little spare cash as it is costing £150 i cannot afford, just to go.

Any cheap solutions welcomed

Absolutely fine esp with a dark cardi or a tshirt underneath (shoulders might be bit of a no-no).

I don't do black for funerals meself - sober colours and styles are fine.

If you have a black jacket you can wear on top and NOT take off then you should be fine.

Can you borrow something from a friend?

Do you have a blouse or shirt you could button over the top to make it look like a skirt and top? Or borrow a cardi or jacket.

Do you know what other people are likely to be wearing? Is your grandmother still alive - do you know what she would appreciate? I would ring around family and get a feel for what the tone of the funeral is likely to be. the dress sounds alright except for the straps - do you have a jacket or a shawl you could wear with it? Unless your family is very traditional I don't think that black is required, just something formal and sober. Most men seem to wear dark suits with a black tie to funerals, so you have to think what the female equivalent would look like. Do you have any formal work wear perhaps?

Agree that nowadays many people just wear sombre colours. E.g. grey/navy blue/dark green.

I think it's often more a question of style - i.e. not ostentatious. So in your case the spaghetti straps would be a no no.

Thanks , Its looks like I need to find a friend with a suitable outfit as my family, well the older generation are very conservative and traditionalist.

I would wear something else if I had it but as a sahm who loves bright colours te chioce is more than limited.

Do you think trousers or a skirt/dress?

i think trousers are fine, do you have black trousers?

hopefully you do. can you borrow a black top from a friend?

its terrible to be having to worry about things like clothes at these times. hope you find something
