night out on the town - what on earth to wear?

Walnutshell · 26/07/2008 15:53

Having not ventured out for a girls' night in ages, I have no idea what to wear and suspect that I also have nothing in the wardrobe.

PLEASE HELP!

I was going to wear black jeans with kitten heels, floaty empire line type shirt thing with vest top underneath. Looks fine, smartish but now so warm I think black jeans will look daft. And I will boil. Not one for flashing my legs though but could I get away with denim crops or no?

could you wear leggings with it? or is the length wrong?

I have no idea what is stylish so ignore me
i just wanted to wish you a great time

Walnutshell · 26/07/2008 15:57

crappy doolally. I thought not.

A youthful (ha!) 33, out in the South West so not expecting to bump into very much Prada

oh, size 10/12

chocolatespiders · 26/07/2008 15:58

what about a summery dress?

Walnutshell · 26/07/2008 15:59

aw fanx spides. no to leggings - they make me look very very strange.

figure is boyish - ok, small boobs, no waist to write home about, legs not really for flashing. god that sounds awful but I look OK in the right outfit!

I just do not possess it.

SW being what it is I could venture out for quick shop now but mainly restricted to DP and New Look with a dash of TK Maxx. No, I don't live in a style capital!

hmm, I actually do HAVE a summery dress. forgot about that! prob don't like how I look in it (moan moan) but I will rush off and locate it - prob in suitcase in attic... it's about 2 yrs old, Pepe Jeans, yellow with lots of pattern.

Guy Fawkes, that sounds grim!

(I knew I shouldn't have wasted all that time and money loading up my wardrobe with crap from Sainsbury's because I can't be bothered to take 2yo to town. It's my old damn fault.)

have you found the dress...?

hopefully cod will come back soon and save you from a fashion disaster after taking advice from me!!!!!!

Walnutshell · 26/07/2008 16:34

ah the dress... very nice. on the hanger. not really flattering. have reverted to black jeans (stretchy, slight flare, v slimming) and flared shirt thingy. it looks nice, but I fear I may be rather warm. cannot find another option now cod has thrown the crops out of the window (is she sure?)

Stargazing · 26/07/2008 16:45

good grief, no way you can wear crops. They are for day only, and even then only at a pinch.

Can you do jeans and cami and heels?

fordfiesta · 26/07/2008 16:47

crops, strapy heels or sandles, pretty vest top and chuncky colourful jewellery? It is not a posh do is it? Hhhmmmm what do i know, i went to a wedding three weeks ago (first night out in 2 years!) ordered about £200 of next stuff, hated it all (sent it back) and ended up in a predictable little black dress (with tights,,,,,,hate my legs)shrug and chunky shoes!!! Ihave no style!
Have a good night whatever!

Gobbledigook · 26/07/2008 16:53

I went out last night adn it was warm - I had on dark denim jeans, pewter wedge sandals, black sleeveless shirt top thingy, cocktail ring, painted nails, a good dollop of slap

It's not exactly boiling at night in the UK - it was warm last night but not so warm that you couldn't wear jeans.

Gobbledigook · 26/07/2008 16:53

The other girls had on

White linen trousers, wedges, sun top
Jeans, sandals, waistcoat
jeans, sandals, top
Jeans, sandals, strappy top

Walnutshell · 26/07/2008 17:07

lol stargazing, you are probably right. I do wear denim crops with flip-flops for daytime (near beach so v practical) but at the back of my mind I am very aware that Trinny and Suzannah would not approve! OK, denim crops a big fat NO.

It's the jeans then. I have a choice of tops: one Fenn Wright Manson slightly asymmetrical hemline vest-style that I dredged up from about 3 years ago (more?) and this empire style short sleeve shirt thing. The first prob more sexy, ribbon straps, 2-layer, lovely mauvey (!) pattern... but the second babydoll-ish empire line, covers rear and allows black jeans to really do their slimming illusion!

you're right, it's prob not exactly too hot for jeans. It's just I'll be going out near harbour with all the half-dressed tourists so want to look a bit summery.

what the hell, I won't care after a cocktail.

I wanted to wear white jeans but htey only arrived today, the buggers. Look really nice too.

I know what you mean - I wore a skirt out last week but only cos it was cold nad miserable and I could wear tights!

I like crops actually - close fitting ones, just never got round to buying any. I think they look nice with wedges. I have decent ankles though

Walnutshell · 26/07/2008 18:41

I don't mind crops.
Tops are not sparkly.
Do also have linen trews, black or white.

OP posts:
Walnutshell · 26/07/2008 18:42

yes, my ankles also fine, wouldn't mind if calves bit thinner tho

OP posts:
Gobbledigook · 26/07/2008 18:43

No, my top was not sparkly either.

Stargazing · 26/07/2008 19:22

why not do linen trews, strappy top, wedges, flower in hair. Tres summery and pretty.

black jeans and shirt. looked nice but was bit warm for dancing later on. when you haven't been out for ages you forget how LITTLE some women wear!! blimey, I will not be sporting short-shorts and bra-top in the town centre any time soon

a floaty top or one of those top dress thingies with a waist belt it gives more "boyish" figures a very defined waist bras with slight padding also help but try to avoid the 13yr old tissue in bra look! if you don't like your legs opt for jeans thick tights or leggings make it sexy with black heals if your short because bright colours on your feet make you look even shorter and accessories, main rule is what ever you put on make sure you only choose one colour ie gold or silver and always take one item off it stops you looking like accessorize!
hope it helped
much love
xx
