Anyone gone from brunette to platinum blond?

So, I took the plunge today and chopped off my long hair into an Agyness crop. I love it and it suits me(unfortunately, dd,4, is devastated as all mummies and princesses MUST have long hair - she bursts into tears every time she looks at me!!).

Anyway, I have dark brown hair, but I'm really tempted to go the whole way and bleach it blond. I suspect the maintainence would be a pain, but you only live once and all that....

Any advice?

I've gone from natural dark brown to blonde.

My hair is very grey, and I used to home-dye in my natural colour. However, I got the horrible line with new growth and looked like a beaver after about 3 weeks.

The solution was to go blonde. I have about 5 colours weaved in, and when my white roots come in, they are not too noticeable. I get my hair redone every half-term, and I feel comfortable with that timeframe.

oh you know the person you would least have expected

zippitippitoes · 25/07/2008 22:20

ann widdecombe

As I clicked on the thread I suddenly realised who you meant
Well Macherie thinks her hairstyle is Agyness Deyn, and now you are mentioning Ann Widdecombe

Thomcat · 25/07/2008 22:25

I have dark hair, very dark, just got a darker all over tine and then had sort of a purple type colour thinly threaded trough here and there underneath dark colour. Do something like that. Something you will notice and enjoy but won't scare your DC!

macherie · 25/07/2008 22:33

OMG Ann Widdecombe!!!!
I think I'll have to go to bed now.

When I was younger (late 20's) I went from natural dark brown to platinum crop, I loved it, and it made me feel fantastic, but it was a PITA to keep up, and I used to cut it and bleach it myself, every 3 weeks.

However, my mum had a crop and bleach in the 7O's when I was a kid, and my sister and i chanted "Jimmy Saville, Jimmy Saville" at her until she locked herself in the bathroom. She went back to the hairdresser the next day to have it dyed.

We were pretty evil, but be warned....

zippitippitoes · 25/07/2008 22:35

yes she dyed her hair and ecame oddly flirty

macherie · 25/07/2008 22:37

and now Jimmy Saville.

OK I get the message!

id love to go blonde(not short as have sticky out ears)but think id look silly!

gemmabroad555 · 27/08/2008 10:35

I had short hair with a lovely plum colour on it, wanted to go platinum. So yesterday went and got a prelightener to apply. Now Im a lovely shade of orange!!! Spoke to my hairdresser this morning, and said to put a brown dye on it to cover it up!!! Leave it to the professionals....I look like a distant relative to cilla Black

simplybalanced · 29/08/2008 12:04

lol, sounds like fun if you can carry it off, but yes, lots of regrowth, lots of upkeep cash, and can look washed out so make up required. I have light brown hair and am a great fan of colour and weird styles, used to be very quirky so could carry it off, now am a bit older and want to look classy/quirky so have slightly less happening with the hair...I just had my first and it's falling out a it so i cut it from shoulder length to bob, everyone loves it apart from me as I had the long hair for ages....just getting used to it now and growing it out and hopefully it will get back to the full head of long curls I used to have.

think about it and then do what you really want )))

MERLYPUSS · 29/08/2008 20:45

Go for it.
If you go for a choppy crop and it's white blonde it looks better with a small amount of regrowth.
I have been every colour (bar blue) and being white blonde rocks!
It is only external protein anyway, like fingernails as I see it, so you can always grow it out.

Bumperlicious · 29/08/2008 21:26

I would love to do this, I couldn't carry a crop off though as my hair is fine and poker straight. Would look like Boris Johnson.

But I would love a platinum blonde bob. Couldn't afford the upkeep though. Can you do the regrowth yourself?

gemmabroad555 · 11/09/2008 18:00

Im off to my hairdressers tomorrow, and Im going for it. Blonde!!! The key is a toner needs to be applied after the bleach, to tone the yellow down. And then a purple/blue based shampoo to stop it going brassy!! John Frieda does one. Always go to your hairdresser...never attempt it yourself. Will let you know how it turns out!!

macherie · 11/09/2008 21:03

Gemma, I'd love to know how you got on as the idea is still on my mind

hoppybird · 12/09/2008 10:01

Let's try again...

Doesn't work for following-love-split.html Natalie Imbruglia.

hoppybird · 12/09/2008 10:02

Lousy, crappy Daily Mail links.

following-love-split.html.

hoppybird · 12/09/2008 10:04

Darn it! It doesn't work.

And neither does Natalie's hairstyle, IMHO. Sorry, Nat.

gemmabroad555 · 12/09/2008 19:20

Bleach comes in different %. the shops only sell 10 0r 20% My hairdresser applied 40% on a strand test, it wasnt ginger more strawberry blonde. In the salons they have 60% the strongest, she is going to get some when she goes to work tomorrow and we are going to stick that on there. She cuts my hair at home you see, and only had 40 % available which is only available at wholesalers not shops. The key is then a light blonde toner as I said before. Will be getting it done next week hopefully, when she gets the 60%.
I loke Natalies hair
