Makeup - opinions wanted on good quality value for money?

Hi! I haven't worn makeup for ages, now I have to go back to work I can't release THIS face on the unsuspecting public. I need makeup! I used to experiment a lot with different brands, now I don't have the time or money to do that. Can anyone point me in the direction of a good value for money range? Was thinking boots no7? Something not too pricey (Estee Lauder) but not, er, scummy?

i love the benefit range, a little more expensive but lasts ages

bought a lovely lipstick from the Barbara Daly Tesco range the other week, goes on a dream and it's one of those colours that goes with everything - shade is gypsy, a sort of pinkish red, not too glary

oh and the urban decay stuff is fab too

Bourjois do nice stuff. I like their foundation and eyeshadows. Agree Tesco Barbara Daly stuff is good. Also I get Laura Geller and Smashbox from QVC shopping channel (its a bit more pricey though)

Another vote for Benefit - the lip and cheek tint stuff literally lasts for MONTHS - so although its expensive it is good too.
Avon are quite good - quite low priced but OK - especially like their lipsticks

Best bronzing powder ever is No. 7 "bronzing balls", at around £10, its £20 cheaper than Lancome which I used when I was richer and it's far better.

There was a make up artist on Woman's Hour on Monday who said that there is very little difference between expensive and cheap cosmetics, it's the application that matters. She recommended Max Factor, Rimmel and Bourjois.

tbh I like avon makeup, and they often have a lot of offers on ie 2 for £7 or such.
