Hairstyle not mutton not dull...?! HELP!

on spur of moment have made appoint for 1pm in new hairdresser.
have been up all night blah blah blah and am v out of touch with all things 'style'

hair now almost reaches shoulders with shortest bit (what was fringe) six inches.

i'm the wrong side of 40 so don't want to look like mutton on the other hand don't want to look dull...

some sort of bob? are fringes good or bad these days?

what colour is your hair? and do you want an easy to manage style, or do you have the time/inclination to style it each day?

fringes good imo, but not full and heavy, better to have one to sweep slightly to side...mine is just shoulder length almst with layers to give shape,esp around face..am very wrong side of 40 btw...have you a photo ?
