I am looking for cropped trousers, as lightweight as possible and fitted, not baggy - any ideas?

Hi there my default summer wear is wide trousers, linen etc with fitted t shirt, but am going to USA, it will be hot, and I would like some cropped fitted trousers I can wear with smocky type tops or with tshirts/vests. At home I wear cropped jeans too but I want something much lighterweight than jeans. Have looked but can only find baggy linen cropped trousers or canvas/denim fitted trousers. I have a horrible varicose vein so cant really do shorts.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Am in London so could go to most shops. I would prefer chambray, or blue, green, maybe beige but not white probably.. Thanks very much!

I bought something like you describe in New Look - they are linen mix and sort of tapered, not baggy IYKWIM. I bought mine for my holiday to US but didn't end up wearing them as it was so hot! Would fake tan help disguise your varicose vein as it's a shame not to get your legs out on holiday. No one is really looking at you, even if you think they are!

Have a great time!

monsoon have some

Oh Kbear i know you are right! I have this debate with myself every year! I might go and have a look in New Look. or I might end up buying shorts wehn I get there. I went to try on dresses last week, I never wear dresses but thought it wd be nice in hot weather...but felt so miseravble at sight of legs that i couldnt buy any, even though top half looked nice.

Thanks Cornsilk, will look there too.

Thank you little lapin and ggirl for all those ideas, will try to see some of them in rl. Am size 12 and 5'8 btw so not petite but Debenhams may be worth a look.
2point4kids Im 45 and dont think i can do leggings! But like the look of something fitted on legs with looser top.

I bought some in matalan today for £12 but they're white
definitely worth a look for others though

soyabean · 06/07/2008 20:55

Have just never done white trousers but maybe I should try, would be cooler than dark colours I guess.

well strictly only with long tops in my case

soyabean · 06/07/2008 21:03

Are they linen, cotton? The Matalan ones?

What about floaty dresses? Cooler than trousers.

I am a big wuss when it comes to wearing shorts but when you get on your holiday you fit right in and realise there are far worse sights to behold!! The cold light of day in the changing rooms is enough to put anyone off buying shorts but sunshine and a bit of Garnier moisturising tanning stuff and bob's yer uncle! Lovely pins.

Go for it.

brimfull · 06/07/2008 21:23

mine are linen but they have quite a few different types

brimfull · 06/07/2008 21:26

look £6!!!

soyabean · 06/07/2008 22:40

Kbear you could be right. I tried on some dresses as I said, in White stuff found a couple I really liked and they looked fine except for legs. But I am thinking it may be so hot that really I just need to be comfy. I may go back tomorrow and try again. have never felt very successful with fake tan but I do have some Johnsons holiday skin so maybe I shd try again. Thanks all, I really appreciate your help.

I nvere go to matalan but it looks quite hopeful for basics ggirl, may try to find one nearby.
