Non-black smart teenage funeral dresses

My lovely FIL has died and we're in the process of arranging the funeral. MIL has said no black - or red. She'd prefer us all in eg green, brown, purple, blue.

The DTDs (14) will need something new. Ideally that would work for other formal occasions. And my brain just isn't working.

Reiss do a nice range but only goes up to 13. Used to have the dress in this photo, which would have been ideal, but too small now.

Any ideas??

Sorry for your loss. 💐

Will a Size 6 or 8 ladies dress fit them? Or is it specifically upper age sized childrenswear that you are looking for?

Some thing like this from next? https://www.next.co.uk/style/sv406255/k97306#size=14%20-%2015%20Years

I’d make it easy for yourself and have a look on next online and order a few things to your local store to try.
Unless they’re tiny a size 6-8 ladies should fit.

Maybe a nice plain jersey dress or jumper dress that they could wear again.
Grey or navy trousers with a plain fine knit jumper could work too.

I really like the burgundy one - thank you! One of them practically lives in Hollister, so hopefully will like this!

Yes, depending on the brand, they can usually do size 8, especially if there's a petite range - they're both about 5' 2".

DD 15 got this for a recent formal occasion. She is 5’2 and a size 4 or XXS and it wasn’t too short. Would be lovely with tights, pumps and a cardigan.

Presumably it needs to be something they will wear multiple times?:

Blue and Green colour choices.

I think I'd buy from somewhere like H&M. I've never felt comfortable wearing something again, except for another funeral, when it was bought for a close relative.

With condolences.

bababamama · Yesterday 12:46

H&M or new look were favoured by mine at those ages. Woollen dresses with tights would be smart but wearable again perhaps, Roman have some

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, and the kind words. We've ordered some from Hollister and Next, and then if those don't work, Mango, New Look etc next. We're normally good at shopping, but, unsurprisingly, just can't summon the brain space for this.

This is sweet - where's it from? Screen grabs didn't show it (probably me being blind, sorry!)

DD(14) a pinafore very similar to this to a family funeral earlier this year. Hers was bottle green, from Sugarhill Brighton. She wore a stripey long sleeved T, black tights and big boots with it. We were also told “to black”. She has worn it several times since.

Sorry it’s from H&M, I couldn’t fathom out a link from the app.

Thinking of you all, it’s terribly hard on teens losing a much loved grandparent.

Irishoriginalgranm · Yesterday 14:48

Have the girls any preference as you want the dresses to be worn again?

Blue is the only one of those four colours I'd like

PomandersandRedRibbon · Yesterday 22:39

I find it strange someone is dictating the dress code so much usually it's more simple eg no black and that's it
