Is this normal for 2 week old gel nails

First time getting gel nails, got them done by woman who had excellent reviews and I loved how they looked on the first few days.

Within a week I had a noticeable growth gap but still acceptable, whereas it’s now been 2 weeks and the growth gap looks so unkempt/tacky

Surely people aren’t getting nails done as often as every 2 weeks though?? It’d already be expensive enough going every 3-4 weeks! & worse still they only really looked good in the first week

Yes. Your nails grow and the gels move along with the growth.

I had a fresh set this morning and they’ll look great next week, ok the following week and vaguely passable if I have to leave it a third week. Ideally, I have them done every two weeks. Yours probably look more pronounced because of the dark colour.

Look pretty standard for 2 weeks growth to me. I go every two weeks exactly because my nails grow and after 2 weeks of life, work, exercise, et al they absolutely need to be redone. I think your expectations may have been unrealistic.

well yes nails grow? Some peoples may grow faster or slower but yes of course it’s normal! Such a strange question lol

If you get French done the growth is t noticeable and you can get away with longer between appointments

Yep, nothing you can do unfortunately - nails grow! As PP said, dark colours make it much more noticeable.

im not a gel expert but have had gels every 3-4 weeks for 3 years now. The lady that does my nails said that some gel brands suffer shrinkage maybe that’s what has happened with yours? Don’t let it put you off though. As pp said the colour which looks lovely has probably made it more obvious.

Clearly nails grow a noticeable amount over two weeks, and there’s nothing you can do about that.
The fact that you chose such a dark colour makes it even more noticeable. A light pink would disguise it better. But ime gel nails only look really good for a week or so after having them done.

Did you think the gel would mean your nails didn't grow?

How often did you expect them to need re-doing OP?
When I used to have gels, I never had a dark colour and usually got 3 weeks between salon visits.

yes sorry I know they grow but I didn’t get gel nails before so I was just very surprised they’d look this bad after only 2 weeks.
I would’ve guessed for those who regularly get gel nails most would get them done monthly

I don’t know if mine grow abnormally fast or something because getting nails done every 2 weeks must cost a fortune, not to mention they don’t even look good by day 9 or so

Surely you knew your nails would grow? Mine grow quickly so the growth looks about the same. I usually get them done every 3 weeks. It really depends on growth speed.

This is why I go with neutral colours and French manicure, can get away with going every 4 weeks.

Every 2-3 weeks is normal. I find they grow quicker in summer so I can stretch to 4 in winter if I’m not too fussy. Toenails grow slower I find

When I got gels regularly, I'd get them every 2.5-3 weeks.

I get mine done every three weeks, otherwise they start to lift or catch on things. I also don’t like having my nails too long.

I’d say they look pretty good for 2 weeks in. I usually have mine redone every 2-3wks

Sorry genuinely wasn’t really aware of how fast they grow haha, I never did anything with my nails before (other than trim/file)

Will an opaque light shade still work? Sheer nice and classy but my nail beds are small so would prefer to hide nail tips

When I got mine done I had to do them every two weeks as they grow really fast. Now I do them at home or don’t bother as life’s too short to spend that much time (and money) in a bloody nail salon

could easily cost around 2000 getting them done every 2 weeks 😵‍💫 imagine

how do I slow down nail growth😅

I had BIAB on 15th October and this is what they look like now. Mine are always OK until about this stage but, over the next few days, it will get really obvious. I’m not getting them done again until Saturday 7th and I have some important in person work meetings on 6th so am already thinking that I’ll have to paint over the BIAB with normal polish before the meeting as otherwise I’ll look a but unkempt.

Yes as others have said, nails grow and the gel grows with them. I tend to go for neutral colours and can last about 3 weeks before they look really shit. I sometimes pick them off myself which obviously wrecks them completely but means that when i go back i don’t get charged the removal fee on top of new nails. It’s obviously much more noticeable with dark colours. But yeah this is completely normal.,
