Hair - is this the best that can be done?

I got my hair done this week with my usual hairdresser. I have a lot of grey coming through now and my usual tint and floodlights aren't working for me as white roots are showing after 2-3 weeks. So she recommended I try a full head mix of babylights and lowlights this time to reduce the upkeep. However when she washed the colour off, the roots look very white/grey and I feel like they looked the same before I got the colour done!

Is this the best result that can be achieved as I grow out the tint (pics attached )? Or is there anything else I can try? My natural hair colour is mid brown so she says going blonder won't suit my colouring.

I’m in the same boat. The idea is that the whites aren’t as noticeable and you don’t need to go to get the roots done as often, so it’s suggested we go lighter. Your hair already looks like it’s a dark blond so I can see they’ve tried to blend it with the greys to look more natural. I think it looks slightly too light at the roots, but maybe in another month you’ll see it blending more. I’m with brown hair and my roots are really noticeable so I’m trying to go a lighter brown and it’s taking ages!! I’m using colour depositing shampoos instead of dyes now, have a look at the ones from Moroccan oil.

My hair is much darker than yours. I use clairol root touch up every so often to get rid of grey. I have also gone a shade or so lighter as it blends in. Sometimes I use half a pack to just sort out parting and hairline. I’m scruffy though and don’t quite care enough! 🙈

Mmm, I see your dilemma. The hair at the crown looks lighter than the rest which a) isn’t the effect what you were after and b) light roots invariably make the hair look MUCH thinner. Not a hairdresser’s finest hour.

Not sure how well or long you know your hairdresser and how satisfied you were with their work previously. If you have a good relationship with her/him I’d call them and tell them that you are very unhappy with the light roots and what can be done to rectify it.

I’m not a hairdresser so I can’t tell you what went pearshaped. Did the stylist choose the wrong colour? Wrong colouring method ( i.e foils )? Wrong mixture? Incorrect application time? Dunno. But an experienced skilled colourist WILL know and also how to address it.

In the interim, have you ever tried a hair powder like Color Wow? They are remarkably effective, rain proof, sweatproof and really easy to apply ( with a brush or small latex sponge). MY current favourite is a hair powder from Schwarzkopf - exact same thing as the Colour Wow ( yes, I have both!) but a 1/3 of the price. And if memory serves I saw some root powders at Superdrug recently .Would recommend. Tip: these powders run darker than you’d expect. Don’t go darker than Light Brown.

Good luck!
