Keratosis pilaris

Anyone have keratosis pilaris that seems to have got worse / shifted locations during or after menopause? I have had it since my early teens, it was on my face then, back in the 80s nobody really knew what it was from memory, I was told to stop picking or scratching it.

Have Irish and Scottish blood and was told just put up with it as people with Celtic origins tend to suffer from it.... not very helpful. But it disappeared from my face as I got older.

Then I had it on my arms until I started using Moroccan black soap and the hammam glove thing. But now it's on my abdomen, of all places, and I'm scratching it while I'm asleep from the look of it. The embarrassment! Good job I'm single.... Anyway, I'm coming up 58 and I would really love to get on top of this pain in the wotsit chicken skin.

Exfoliating acids? The Ordinary? Other brands? Didn't want to shell out until I got some hints and tips from you helpful people here.

I get it really bad on my legs and my arms but have found the medicube body hypochlorus acid really helps if I use it once a month.

For me, a combination of using Korea Italy towels, drinking lots of water and significantly reducing sugar and carbs really helped/all but eliminated it. If my diet goes to shit, it instantly takes my skin down with it.

I’ve had this all my life - so does my DH and our DC - but I never knew it could be treated. Watching with interest…

Way back when I was about 15, I think, I was given a cream I now realise was basically Tret. I remember the GP saying it was Vitamin A. It causes it to shed madly and it will come back if you stop, but it did actually work (on the arms)

The Cerave products for tough bumpy skin are really good for this. They contain salicylic acid. I keep the wash in the shower as it’s a pump bottle and every couple of days use it on my face as it used to appear on the sides of my face.
interestingly it used to be bad on my arms but since I rub my HRT Estrogel in there, it’s gone.

It’s a symptom of poor gut health. Topical stuff might help temporarily but really you need to try addressing the root cause. How is your diet and intake of toxins etc?

Salycikic acid stick is what you need - inkey list have one.

if it’s red as azeleic acid serum (alternate am and pm)
if it’s sore add cica balm (LRP)

or for a one stop alternative try aveeno skin renewal smoothing cream which is PHA (acids) and oats which is good for soothing

Interesting. Never knew that as I was always told it was due to Irish or Scottish blood. Ironically my Dad was Irish and didn't have it but Mum, as far as I'm aware, has always had it and quite badly, but her diet is a bit picky as she's getting on a bit now and she's from the generation that don't like to shower much or exfoliate. So I used to think it was a lack of exfoliation. But it could be diet. Food for thought ha ha. Never, ever, had it on my abdomen before and my diet has been lacking, then good, then lacking again for various reasons.

This is not true. It can be exacerbated by it but it is not caused by it, it's a genetic condition.
