New Apple Watch

Does anyone have the latest Apple Watch? I’m a bit cynical about the cult of Apple but I have heard it is the best watch for cardiac patients. Can you talk me into or out of it? I am never going to run a marathon, btw.

Sports people use Garmin, for everyday Apple is brilliant. Mine is 4 years old, it’s my second one, and happily recommended OP.

I have the Series 11 and love it. A few weeks ago it told me I was too hot, my heart rate was too high and I needed to see a doctor. I was going down with flu. I also love the ‘fall’ aspect where it will phone my DD if I fall and am unresponsive. It can’t tell if you are having a heart attack.

We both have Apple series 6 watches and love them. DH has a heart condition and uses it to check his pulse when exercising quite a lot - if it gets above a certain point, he’s supposed to stop and let it come down! He can only also show the GP tracings of the one point ECG, if he’s worried. They told him to keep on using it!

@Tortephant thank you. I am looking for the best wearable cardiac monitoring device. I need something that has fall recognition as I am known to faint like a Victorian romantic heroine in a tight corset, and I have been on and off the heart transplant list here in Australia for a couple of years. I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be the demographic a Garmin is aiming at.

Apple are highly regarded for this. It’s not functionality I’ve used so can’t comment in that respect.

@LathkillDale Thank you for this. I have a S4 Apple Watch which is beyond resuscitation. Its cardiac features were a bit limited compared to the newer Apple Watch. I believe it does background heart rate checks at much closer intervals now. I would love it if it could be set to check ecg at frequent intervals too.

@Rocknrollstar This is very useful info also. I am struggling to feel safe going for walks and I know I need to get cracking.

I've got a garmin watch which does have fall detection and heart rate monitoring/ECG but they work in slightly different ways to apple watches. DH has got an apple watch series 10 and he has atrial fibrillation. It is really accurate and tells him when he's having an episode, however the only issue with it is the battery life. It only lasts one day, which means he either has to take it off every night and put it on charge which is a bit annoying as he needs the monitoring during the night more than anything, or he has to remember to charge it at some point during the day. Whereas I only have to charge mine once every 2 weeks

I got him the Apple Watch specifically for the falls detection. DH often goes on country walks, and I was worried about him having a heart attack on his own and lying undetected on a footpath in the country for hours!
