They are fine nice black trousers elasticated waists are "in" now . What are you wearing them with?

Eta I would definitely wear them but I am not the height of fashion either

i would encourage someone who had difficulty with zips/buttons that come with regular jeans to buy them otherwise no. They aren’t nice. If you want jeans buy jeans. They will sit like a “comfortable “ trouser, but they are made to look like jeans . I’m 55 and would not wear them.

I woud wear them around the house but hope they would be ok if I was popping out to shops etc.

Chuck on a jacket and boots and not look like I a wearing my pyjamas.

I would wear them out to the shops or wherever, i have similar and wear them with a fitted short sleeve t shirt and a cardigan, i mean you are going to get replies that they wouldn't be seen dead in them and comments about "old lady" but if you like them and wearing them for comfort there is nothing wrong with that.

I think they're okay (as PP says, elasticated waists are popular atm) but for me they are a bit too in-between two styles. I have some elasticated soft jeans from uniqlo in a brighter colour which are more obvious about the fact that they are casual and elasticated. These ones look a bit too much like they're pretending to be smarter jeans, which I think is what's reminding you of your mum's slacks, OP.
