'Impressive' is stretching it but Schwarzkopf root retouch spray does the job reasonably well.

Tortephant · 21/10/2026 17:22

Wow powdee

PenguinIce · 21/10/2026 17:49

L’Oréal magic retouch.

Thanks everyone who is answering..

has anyone used both a spray and a powder / compact ? Can you explain the differences ? Does one last for longer than the other ?
Does the colour come off on your fingers for either ? TIA 😄

The spray doesn't come off on your fingers but you have to be careful around your hairline and wipe it off if it gets onto your forehead when sprayed. Once it's dry, which is pretty much instantly, it stays put.

Tortephant · 21/10/2026 18:45

The powder is very easy to brush in. I find it easier to apply and look natural than a spray.

OldieButBaddie · 21/10/2026 18:51

I don't get on with powder as I must touch my head a lot and I get it on my hands

The only think I have found to work well is using the L'oreal root touch up on wet hair. Spray liberally along your parting and then a few little sections either side and along the hairline. Then dry your hair and any which was on your skin/scalp vanishes but it stays on the roots. This has been transformative for me! It lasts til the next wash

I found out the benefits of using the spray on damp hair by accident. Coverage is lighter and more natural as I brush it in. Stains the hairbrush tho.

Ooh, I will try this, thanks to you and @OldieButBaddie for the tip. I use a wide tooth plastic brush and it's black so stains not an issue.

Thanks @FillerTrackOnTheAlbumOfLife sounds like the spray won't be right for what I'm after. It's near the hairline at the front that I want to cover. Many thanks

I use it at the front hairline, damp hair.

I also didn't like them various sprays. I do like colour wow root touch up, the colour lasts well and isn't irritating/itchy at all.

L'Oréal Magic Touch. I dampen the hair slightly, use a tissue to protect the skin on my forehead, spray over the roots, then brush it through the hair. Try it lightly at first as you can always go over again. The effect is more natural than hair dye which gives a solid block colour.
I then use a hairdryer to set it.

Liz1tummypain · 21/10/2026 22:38

Thanks so much @kdramaqueen 😁

I prefer using Superdrug’s ‘wash in wash out’ colour shampoo. It’s cheap at £5 a bottle and I’m finding it works fantastically well in between hair salon visits!

treatsweet · 21/10/2026 23:26

I use the L’Oreal Magic Retouch too. But I’ve never tried it on damp hair. I’ll give it a go. Currently, I find that if I push my glasses up onto the top of my head (which I do all the time) then the dye transfers to my glasses and then to my nose. Does doing it damp hair stop this?

minnowonthesay · 21/10/2026 23:28

I think the Colour Wow compact is excellent, I’m on my probably 4th one and recommended it to my hairdresser, who also uses it and now sells them!

I don't use glasses, but think that the colour transfer will still take place.

Does the L'Oreal Magic Tough spray smell? And does it transfer to your pillow case or clothes?

Yes Color Wow compact gets consistently good reveiws on Amazon. I'm really torn between this and the L'oreal spray ( which happens to be much cheaper)

Edited to add, Color Wow also gets good reveiws on Marks & Sparks website
