Which engagement ring would you choose?

I’m looking for a new engagement ring. I know I want gold and an oval diamond. I can’t decide between these two. One is from Rox which I believe is a company that has stores in major cities and the other is in a jeweller independent to Leeds with a store in the trinity centre. I can’t understand why there is a £450 difference? I tried them both on and loved them both, the cheaper one will need a slight resize though.

I can see one is 18ct, is the other one also?

The cheaper one from the local jeweller looks to be a slightly lower quality diamond as it is E v D (colour) and VS1 v VVS2 (clarity). But the difference is negligible and no-one including yourself will probably be able to tell. I'd go with the cheaper ring for that reason and also the service of a local independent.

@porridgewithsalt Yes, it’s 18ct too

does the new fiance have a budget? I'd probably tell them this is what you like and let them ick if they're paying for it

As @porridgewithsalt says the 2nd one is higher colour (slightly) and higher spec (slightly) and also v slightly bigger 1.55 or 1.56ct v 1.5ct.
But none of that would be noticeable by eye

Id say go for the cheaper one, and id expect them to resize it free of charge unless they needed to add gold to make it bigger.

Both are lab grown.

Diamonds come either from mining (which can be troublesome from ethics and ecology point of view) or from laboratory where huge pressure is used to force grafite to take diamond structure.

I’d go for the Rox because it doesn’t need resizing and it’s a bigger and higher quality diamond (clarity and colour). The gold band also looks the same width. Which is the other shop as there’s no independent jewellers inside the Trinity centre?

The rings are lovely and obviously far cheaper than mined diamonds.
But prices for lab grown are falling, apparently they have dropped 75% in 4 years, so personally, I wouldn't buy one.
