Does anyone know how to fix a bra wire that has come out the top

I'm sure there was some kind of kit you could get to fix this at one point. Anyway, it keeps when the rest of the bra is absolutely fine. Any tips appreciated.

I’ve never found a solution to this irritation. Following for interest!

I normally just shove it back in and stitch it. Lots of little stitches where the hole is.

managingexpectations · 20/10/2026 20:48

I poke it back in and sew over the hole lots of times, then get a bit of soft material, usually ribbon to sew over the repair so it’s bit jaggy when I wear it. I’m definitely not a seamstress but it does the job

Yes I used to have things to fix…like a plastic condom shaped thing (sorry can’t think how else to describe!) which went over the wire, then had barbed bits sticking out which held it in place inside the channel once pushed back in. Not sure what they’re called to search for though!

shellyleppard · 20/10/2026 20:48

I have sewn the very small hole up before now. Failing that take the wire out of both sides??

Tigercrane · 20/10/2026 20:49

Yeah, that's the thing, lol.

I've tried sewing but it just seems to come through again, very quickly.

I like the idea of removing the other one too...i'll have two saggy boobs instead of one 😀

I used to experience this but I put my bras in those little mesh wash bags now and it never happens.

BeardySchnauzer · 20/10/2026 21:03

Agree seeing doesn’t always work but seeing over another bit of fabric seems to for a while. Also agree about washing in a net

Are you currently walking around with one pert boob and one saggy one 🤣

Yourcousinrachel · 20/10/2026 21:46

They seem to be called underwire end caps and ive seen underwire repair patches on amazon. Never used these myself......

Ive just fixed by sewing bias binding over the bit where the wire is poking out.

It you’ve had it long enough that the wire has come through then I don’t think it’s a waste to bin it

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 20/10/2026 22:07

Another bin vote. Never been able to get them to go back in anyway.

I think it's at the end of its lifespan if the wire is protruding and you've already tried to sew it. Are you washing it inside a mesh bag (I do) and that works well especially if it has delicate lace.

No, i think I'm going to have to try the mesh bag. It can happen to bras which are only about 10 weeks old.

I take the other one out and use the bra as a non wired one.

BeSharpHelper · 20/10/2026 22:27

This usually happens when dried with heat or the twisting motion when you do them up at the fromt then twist them round your body. so stop drying them over a radiator or in a tumble drier and do them up over something ‘ slinky’ so you can twist them round without damaging them . Should stop it happening in the future .
