Mixing yellow gold and white gold

I've recently bought a diamond ring set in yellow gold. I love it and want to show it off every chance I get.

Everything else I own is white gold/silver. It's a much better colour on me.

I was brought up to never mix metals when wearing. Is this still true?

Do I need to go spend money on yellow gold necklaces and earrings to wear with my lovely ring?

Wear what you choose.

Personally I only like silver or platinum so that is what I wear but if I liked both colours I would wear them.

Of course you can mix. I own this ring and a necklace which is a mixture of white and yellow gold. If I'm wearing a gold ring on one hand then I'll tend to wear a gold bracelet on that arm. My wedding ring is platinum so I wear silver coloured bracelets on my left arm. But I've seen some lovely delicate bangle sets which are a mix of white and yellow gold - I think they have to just be complementary styles rather than exact colour matches.

Pic is 'under review' but should be there in a bit

I mix, never used to but life rules about this type of thing have relaxed, wear what you want.

My wedding and engagement ring are platinum and I wear it with a two tone watch on that hand. My eternity ring is also platinum and I wear that on my other hand with yellow gold bracelets.

My earrings and necklaces are often yellow gold.

Mix and matching is completely fine.

I think this comes from stacking rings that to stop them scratching each other because of the composition of the metals. I was told never wear 9ct and 18ct next to each other. Apart from that mix whatever you want. I personally love white gold with yellow gold accents.

I have a platinum wedding ring, a white gold engagement ring and two yellow gold eternity rings. I also have a white gold tennis bracelet and a steel watch, all on the same arm/hand. I think it looks just fine, and I was definitely in the camp of not mixing colours before DH bought the above for me!!

Fine to mix, lots of jewellery is made of two or more metals anyway

Of course you can mix. I've never even heard of this "rule" until I read it on here a couple of years ago.

Cyclingmummy1 · 18/10/2026 13:17

My wedding ring is two colour and I've 2-3 bracelets that are 2 (or 3) tone so I've never really thought about the 'rule'. Wear what you like.

Mixed metals are great. Platinum and rose gold look good together also.
