This doesn’t exist does it - jumper quest

For the past couple of years I have been looking for a specific jumper:

fairisle/nordic
blue/green/pink or cream around the neck/patterned bit. But light colours not navy/dark green.
ideally funnel neck

now I can find quite a lot which fit this description but the other important factor is for it to be cotton. I have a bit of a mild wool allergy (even cashmere) and I hate acrylic knitwear.

i can find cotton but not colours that suit me or they have a childish Christmas pattern. I did buy one in desperation from cotton traders a couple of years ago but it looked dreadful - no shape and droopy. There is one again this year but it is essentially the same as the one I had.

i have tried wearing something under wool btw but anywhere it touches I get rashy so i spend my days pulling down my wrists or pulling the collar away from my neck. There was a nice joules one last year but it wasn’t pure cotton and had something in it that had me pulling it off in itchy desperation in the changing room.

shall I just give up? Size 12 and budget up to 150 if anyone does fancy a search.

Sorry OP but the way you worded this just made me think of “do you have any pirate memory games for children aged 4-8?” 😂

I know what it’s like to be searching for something specific so sorry I can’t be more helpful.

Start saving and get someone to knit exactly what you want would be my advice. Fairisle and cotton is not a common thing. Fairisle sweaters are, by definition, made of wool.

Couple of second hand choices, very inexpensive and both 100% cotton. So even if they don’t quite hit the spot at least you know these brands do 100% cotton.

thanks @LaurieFairyCake I like the ll bean one.

I know ‘proper’ fairisle jumpers aren’t cotton but there are some fairisle pattern ones around. I do like this one:

https://www.joules.com/style/su924888/g50118

but there is a tiny bit of wool in it and whilst it has the desired light blue at the top, I am not sure the body is too dark. Worth a try perhaps.

OP, cotton traders have some. Patterns aren’t absolutely the prettiest, but they are all cotton.

Floisme · 17/10/2026 08:36

I saw some on my high street a couple of years ago. I can't remember the colours - but I'm pretty sure pale blue was one of them - and they were probably a cotton mix and not 100% cotton but I remember them partly because they felt really soft. There are very few big stores left on my high street so it was most likely either Next or H&M. I expect some will have found their way to Vinted so it might be worth a search of both those brands.

shredandmulch · 17/10/2026 08:57

Have a look for Knitting Tallinn. They make to order, so may be open to adapting their work to use cotton. I don’t know what yarns they generally use, but the designs sound like what you are looking for.

Justsewsew · 17/10/2026 08:57

I feel your pain - i live a faurisle jumper but cannot stand wool even with a top underneath. I suspect they need a bit of wool in them though to keep the fine pattern/structure in the fairisle iyswim? I got a cotton one off vinted a couple of years ago but it does have a tiny bit of wool in it - I can wear it for an evening before it drives me mad. Not that that helps your search - sorry 🤭

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 17/10/2026 09:09

Lambswool is pretty rough as a wool. Id be surprised if you can get a cotton Fairisle in my view. I’ve never seen one. Boden have one that’s 40.% polyamide, 35% wool and 15% cotton. That’s quite a good compromise.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 17/10/2026 09:15

These are the Boden ones that avoid the Christmas designs!

Those Boden ones look lovely but I can never be sure of the length of the arms when they push them up - IME it is done when the model realises the arms don't reach the wrist. It might not bother anyone under 5ft 7 but I am suspicious...

Actually I’ve got a number of cotton fairisle jumpers from Seasalt. They are a fairly common summer season item. Look on eBay NWT.

LassoOfTruth · 17/10/2026 09:26

Knitter here - not to throw another yarn spanner in the mix but have you tried alpaca before? I’m also allergic/sensitive to wool and just finished an alpaca/cotton mix which is so cozy I’m in love. Not itching so far! It also behaves like wool so imagine it’d be good for fairisle styles.

Hedgehog23 · 17/10/2026 09:42

Pretty vacant have some 100% cotton fairisle style jumpers but not funnel necked and not sure you will get the colours you want and you may not like the patterns. You could try vinted for previous years in case you like those better.

I love this referencee. Also reminded me of this one (showing my age!)

This. But it might not have to be cotton. A lot of yarn is acrylic, not wool.

You can definitely buy cotton yarn and use it for a Fair isle pattern. I have knitted one myself. It feels different to a wool garment but still looked great.

I know. I was just suggesting that it doesn’t have to be cotton.
