Winter outfits for evenings out

Lovemycat2023 · Yesterday 18:31

I am a chilly person, and in the winter (and TBH in the spring and autumn too!) I struggle with what to wear if we are going out for example to the pub or a casual dinner.

I often wear a thermal long sleeved thin top with a round neck jumper underneath, plus a scarf in case I’m still cold! Jumper tends to be the M&S supersoft ones in khaki / navy / maroon.

Does anyone have suggestions as to what I could wear to be warm but look nicer? (Other than a beer jacket that is!)

edited to add I tend to wear wide leg cords / jeans on the bottom half.

Thanks

I would wear something like this with a thermal top underneath of you feel the cold.

I would invest in one or two cashmere jumpers

I now go for a vest, long sleeved top, thin turtleneck jumper, those fleece lined tights that look like semi sheer black ones (I know these are a bit like marmite but they are warmer than actual leggings) and a pinafore cord dress.

Where are you all going for your evenings out? The Arctic circle?!

Try lambs wool rather than acrylic.

What's a beer jacket?

Leather or pleather. You’ll be boiling in about 10mins.

keeps your core warm and you can whip it off when you get too hot

That’s a good idea - I remember seeing them before on Etsy but had forgotten

Mainly the south east of England, but I just get so very cold and then when I’m cold I can’t get warm! I think it’s worse when it’s not that cold outside and so there isn’t any heating on, but the pub / cafe etc is cold and you sit there not enjoying it because it’s cold!

casual is easy!
i agree with merino/lambswool/cashmere rather than acrylic fabrics.
you can layer with a jacket or waistcoat and wear thermals under your trousers.

I’ve invested in a sherling coat, if I’m wearing that when I’m outside with a nice scarf i can wear anything underneath. The coat’s plain and smart enough to wear for any event.

Have you had blood tests to check for anaemia, thyroid issues, deficiencies like Vit D etc OP?

I hate going in/out of pubs/restaurants in winter because they are often roasting hot, so layers are best.

Do you wear a thermal vest underneath? https://www.damart.co.uk/c-243540-vests-and-camisoles
Thick tights and a heavy skirt?

I like the idea of a waistcoat - never worn one before but I’ve seen some celebs wearing them recently and looking good

I have yes - I have sub optimal
iron levels so take supplements for that. I have chronic fatigue which is now mild and I manage it well, so poor temperature regulation is part of that.

Good point re skirts. I have some nice ones but no thick tights and they are a good option as I can take them off if too hot.

@Menopants just bought the belly wrap and it’s on the way. Thank you so much!

Cashmere jumpers are soft, light and incredibly warm. Would be perfect for you OP.

I am the same, OP. I have found that keeping my feet warm is the best way to manage it so pretty much stick to boots throughout winter. With merino tights and thick wool socks 😁. You can also get shearling in soles. I also have some lovely wool blanket scarves (vinted has a great selection).

Yes - my feet are always freezing! I have those toe warmers for when I’m outdoors but good point re socks

I have this knitted dress which I love and keeps me warm. Could easily wear with thermal vest/tights/leggings if its super cold.

These look great. Any idea of the sizing? I couldn't see a size guide on the website.

This is a beautiful dress and love that the reviews refer to it as being like a blanket! Thanks

I found a size guide but also the reviews said they came up a bit small. I’m a 14 so I’ve gone for a large and will report back when it arrives
