Need help choosing a gown for a high end gala!

So, I'm 35F and a mother of two, for context. I've attended quite a few galas before, so this isn't anything new for me. Most of the time, I attend alone or with my husband.

But this time, I've been invited to a very highend and important gala as my boss's plus one. We're representing our company, so obviously, it's a pretty big deal, and I want to look appropriate for the occasion.

Now I'm stuck between two gowns, a blue one and a green one, and I genuinely can't decide which one to wear

I know this probably sounds like a silly thing to stress over, but since this is my first time attending an event like this with my boss, I want to get it right. I want to look elegant and classy without being overdressed or choosing something that doesn't fit the occasion.

So, ladies, help me out! Blue or green? Which would you choose for a formal, high end corporate gala?

I'm so indecisive right now, lol.

I don’t think either are formal/high end. Would something with thicker material be more suitable?

LoveToGiveAdvice · 14/10/2026 15:58

I love the green one. Perhaps have a shall to cover shoulders (in case you find yourself under dressed) and where some bigger jewellery to make it more a gala vibe.

Tortephant · 14/10/2026 16:01

Neither for this event. But if it has to be one then the green.

Where I come from a gala is a swimming competition.
Do you mean deep end rather than high end?

MellowSubmarine · 14/10/2026 16:13

They both look more like summer/holiday dresses than formal party-wear.

jjw2002 · 14/10/2026 16:17

Neither.

Here's betting OP is that man who used to post photos of ladies on horses.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 14/10/2026 16:23

I’d not go in the blue one! Not with my boss if he’s a man anyway. Green one not so bad but very boring.

KittyAndPatch · 14/10/2026 16:25

Both are great for a beach party.

You state that you live in Paris where I would think it would be very easy to find something far more suitable in a charity/pre-owned shop!

Whatshitnow · 14/10/2026 16:27

They look like beach dresses.
You need jewel coloured or black velvet floor length with diamond or pearl drop earrings, a fur wrap and possibly a tiara. Big bouncy blow dry. 👸

Boopsi · 14/10/2026 16:35

Sorry OP, but neither dress says “high end” to me. That said, you have been before so perhaps in your industry that is the norm, but in mine proper black tie would be expected. If so, you can ignore that concern!

Between the two dresses, the green is definitely nicer and smarter. You look lovely on both though.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 14/10/2026 16:36

@Whatshitnow I’m assuming that’s a joke!

I would look for a more classic dress or hire one.
