Cutbacks

Hi guys,

like most people, I’m having to cut back due to everything except breathing becoming ridiculously expensive, and that will now include har and nails. I can’t justify spending £50 on nails and £80 on hair colour. So I’m asking for box dye tips, I’m going grey so need to touch up roots but can I throw the rest of the dye over the remainder hair, it’s previously coloured and I’ll be using a similar colour.
Also, how on earth do I get biab off without dynamite?

I hear you. Would you consider a restyle drastic short haircut? It will be a once off expense but you don't have to worry about outgrowing a colour. I usually have long hair but twice in the past I had pixie cuts and I enjoyed the change.

Maybe look into grey blending? It can be expensive, but needs done much less frequently so can work out cheaper across the year.

I wouldn't get the biab off yourself, pay for one last salon visit and get them to take it off and take your nails down short.

Do you have a college nearby that offers hair and beauty courses? Our college does, and has a salon for the students. They offer treatments by the students at very low prices.

I used to pay my hairdresser £180 for Keratin treatments. At college, I pay £60.

I used to pay around £90 for roots and cut at my hairdresser. At college, it's £30.

The students are well supervised throughout, and I am consulted before and during the process.

Learn to read 'beauty' costs as voluntary taxes you have agreed to pay for being female. You do not have to pay them.

Have your hair cut short and try being grey -- you might like it! Short hair cuts need redoing after approx 6 weeks, but two or three cuts will leave you free to regrow it longer. And save a lot of money. (Your natural hair colour is likely to go well with your natural skin colour.)

Same goes for nails.

You choose.

My nails are £35. Would be less if I had polish and not gels. Stopped the colour years ago. Too expensive every month. I wanted colour blended into grey but my hair rejected the colour. My grey wasn’t what I liked so I thought a mix of greys would be great. Didn’t work but my hair was quite short and covid helped. No one saw me! I used box colour for a year and dd offered to do it. Round the back is difficult. After covid I bit the bullet and I’m grey. Nails - non negotiable!

I was dark haired and going grey and struggled to keep on top of roots . In Covid I started growing it out then afterwards I just had highlights to tone down the grey bits . I am now grey with blonde highlights , which I love, and as there is no defined root line I have it done much less often so have saved money.

Agree with PP to make a last salon visit to get the BIAB removed. You could ruin your nails trying to do it yourself.

I have stopped getting a wax and bought an ILP machine. Too soon to see if it is working yet!

I kerp getting adverts on FB for these, but can't quite bring myself to take the plunge and order one.

Does it hurt? (Most important question for me at the moment 😂)

It will be easier in the long run to bite the bullet and go grey. Some of the women I know who are totally grey look fabulous.

I get my hair cut shorter than I actually want it to give time for it to grow back (only works for some styles obvs) so I can go three months inbetween cuts. And it feels like I've actually had a haircut too. I had a trim once and complete false economy as I barely felt like I'd been and booked back in a few weeks later.

A good box dye is L'Oreal Casting Creme Gloss.

Yea this! It’s well worth looking into!
