Do you wash clothing items you buy from charity stores or vinted before wearing them?

I am a newbie in this area and purchased a lovely top but it says handwash in cold water and other has no washing instructions tag. But ChatGPT says to wash it on high temperature to sanitise.

Always. I try them on first snd if they are something I want to keep, I wash straight away. They just feel more "mine" when they smell of my washing liquid and softener!

Do you wash them separately on a higher heat cycle or with other clothes?

With other clothes!

I always wash charity shop tops but I follow the washing instructions. I wouldn’t, for example, wash something on a high temperature if it was wool or cashmere because that would risk ruining it. If it looks or smells as if a cold wash wouldn’t be enough then I don’t buy it.

Editing to add that I wash them with other clothes.

I would probably wash as instructed but also put some Dettol Laundry stuff in as well

I put them in the normal wash before wearing, and usually add dettol. I used to be fussier and wash secondhand things separately on a higher temp, but I buy so much secondhand now that I don't have time.

I bung them in with any other stuff at the right temp.

I usually wash following the instructions but as well as washing I also tend to steam anything I’ve bought from Vinted anyway. I bought a Tefal steamer for about £30, it’s very handy for freshening up things.

Usually but not always - I got a lovely cashmere jumper recently that looked like it hadn’t ever been worn (no tags, but no wear either).
so I just isolated it in the freezer for a few days to ensure no moth eggs.
