Caring for brushed cashmere

Just got a beautiful argyle brushed cashmere jumper - tried it on but it's already shredding and I'm worried, it is going to be a nightmare to care for? I'm familiar with caring for standard cashmere but this item seems to be more demanding - will it get easier and any tips, I'm in two minds about sending it back.

Brushed cashmere is very high maintenance. I think you'd need to dry clean it. I have a lot of regular cashmere jumpers and put them in the washing machine with no problems, dry flat on a towel.
Unfortunately, when I did this with my brand new brushed cashmere jumper it came out toddler sized. My own fault, I should have read the care label which said dry clean only.

They feel lovely, but I'm not tempted to buy another

Thanks - so I'm not going to be tempted to wash the jumper then. Really helpful.

I have a Jaeger brushed cardigan.
Thw first time I wore it a tin of turmeric tipped all over me. I rinsed it in cold water and then washed it at 20° on my machine delicate wash and it was fine.
I have another brushed jumper and that's sadly shrunk slightly. They can be stretched out again if you have the time to do it. They also need to be combed with a cashmere comb, obviously not a debobbler. This is more time consuming.

I don’t have brushed cashmere but brushed wool. It has to be brushed quite regularly, otherwise it has a tendency to develop something that looks like matted locks. This is different from pilling, I brush it with a baby hair brush and it helps.

I have a couple of brushes cashmere scarves and they haven’t pilled at all (I appreciate scarves are a bit different to jumpers).

what stands out for me is your comment that it’s already shedding. Mine have never done that so tbh I’d be questioning the quality of the jumper.

It shed onto the jacket I tried it on with - it wasn't on for longer than a minute or two. I really love it but it feels like it's a head/heart battle.
