help with the warmest clothes for travelling light around north China

We are travelling light around north China mid winter and looking for ideas for the warmest clothes that are not too bulky. Best knee length coat and ideally overtrousers too, I normally wear salopettes but seeing if there are any other options to cut wind and add another layer of warmth but perhaps less bulk.
Thank you

Have you seen down skirts? They turn jackets into long coats. They're popular in the Austrian Alps because you can take them off to drive. Are you going to be doing lots of outdoor things? Salopettes seem overkill for a cultural trip, whilst if you're doing outdoors things, proper Arctic outdoor work kit would be a better bet than just a long coat bought in the uk. You'd probably be better buying whatever the locals wear on location.

Thanks - I feel the cold more that most so wear thermals and salopettes for outdoors activities here but not necessarily lightweight or easy to pack so will definitely need something warm there and dont want to wait to buy there! I havent seen down skirts but cant imagine i would need to take the bottom off as i wont be too warm and wont be driving.

Only (synthetic) down designed for mountaineering is truely lightweight and easy packable. What activities are you doing, how cold will it be and how long will you actually be outside? I have down under trousers from Decathlon for ski mountaineering. If it's properly -20°, you shouldn't be outside anyway and any kit good for the uk won't be suitable. The locals will dash between house and preheated cars, like they do in Canada. At least in -20 waterproofs aren't necessary. You'd be looking at arctic survival gear for those conditions if you're outside for significant lengths of time.
