"French waving" iron/tool for curls

My social media has been full of these ads lately, showing a kind of U-shaped waving iron - it looks like the sort that you clamp on the hair, hold for a bit, release, and move down the section of hair repeatedly to the end. And they do sometimes show it being used like that. It's not a look I really. like though.

But most of them show it being pulled through the hair like a straightener, and coming out with loose, slightly spiral curls, that look great. They seem to be called variations of "French wavers"

I'm highly sceptical. I think it's probably some kind of AI created video, especially as the people's faces turn into the pretend "OMG" look even before the tool has finished!

But I so so want it to be real. I wish I could just pull a tool through my hair and have it come out in nice, smooth, rounded curls like on the video.

There are lots of brands (and similar sort of marketing, and landing pages, all promising big discounts, multi-buy, time running out ,etc etc), and all that look very similar, which all adds to my suspicions that it is a scam or at least, not anything like the videos.

Has anyone tried it? Is it possible to have some kind of shaped straightener like tool that you just pull through the hair and come out with curls?!

(I have madly big, frizzy, curly hair that needs taming, so I end up straightening it with a dryer or iron in order to smooth it, but then I can't then put any curls back in that will stay - I have tried hot round brushes, curling tongs, those tools that suck it in and curl it, Secret curler, Secret air wave or something, and others, as well as lots of products that are supposed to give grip, but no luck. They all drop out within a short time. It's wild natural curls, or blunt straightness, it seems. But this is why I'm so keen for something like this to be real! Of course it might still not hold, but maybe...?)

Hair straighteners do that job for me and I, like you have tried all the wands!

yees I've tried curling with straighteners too, sometimes manage it, sometimes not. But these just looked so much easier! I guess even with straighteners, the curls don't last, so I suppose this might just be the same anyway.

My hairdresser can get curls to last but she uses a round brush as she dries it. I've been using a brush hairdryer to smooth it and can get the ends a bit bent but absolutely not curls, though my brush is maybe a bit bigger than hers. She's much better at sectioning it than I am, though, and keeping it in small sections! Maybe that's my issue...
