Big shoes - London, not online? 9 or 10.

I have a niece visiting who wears a 9 1/2 or 10 in UK sizes. She wants to buy shoes. Where can she go? Do any non-specialist stores go this big?

i wonder if long tall sally does

i doubt regular shops go larger than a 7 or 8

WigWamBam · 01/07/2008 07:47

Evans sells 9s and 10s - nice shoes, lots of trendy ones. They do tend to come up pretty wide though.

Tutter · 01/07/2008 07:48

are you sure that's her uk size?

NotQuiteCockney · 01/07/2008 07:48

Most of them stop at an 8, ime (I wear 8 or 9), but I was hoping there was an exception somewhere. 9 West? Next?

She's not very wide generally, dunno about feet. Good point re: Evans, though, I expect their shoes aren't pricey?

Yes, that's her UK size, she wears an 11 in American. I wear 8s or 9s, and have compared shoes with her, I doubt she could get into my 9s. (She's at least tall, so it makes sense she'd have big feet!)

Evans aren't too bad for price, a bit more than you'd pay in some of the high street shoe shops but not wildly expensive. They have a sale on at the moment too so you might drop on for a bargain - the only shoes they tend to have in their sales are the 9s and 10s.

NotQuiteCockney · 01/07/2008 07:52

I'll talk to her about Evans. Anyone know how big the Natural Shoe Company goes? I've got 9s from there ...

There is a shop in Kingston which specialises in larger shoe sizes but I can't remember what it's called. Is Kingston any good or too far away? I can search for the name of it if you can get there.

littleboyblue · 01/07/2008 07:54

I'm a UK size 9. I get things in
Evans (they're nice and wide too)
Shoezone
Dolcies

Shoezone is the best as they are nice and cheap. My favourite.

SugaryBits · 01/07/2008 07:56

Found it-

After 8 shoes for women
42 Old London Road, Kingston

their website

littleboyblue · 01/07/2008 07:58

Lovely. Thanx Sugar

NotQuiteCockney · 01/07/2008 07:59

Kingston is probably too far away, dunno, will have a think.

I've looked at Evans and Long Tall Sally websites, they both have sales on, and she can have a look and see what's her style.

Looks like Shoezone and Dolcies only go to a 9, so they might be good for me, but not for her, probably? Her feet did look about the same size as my size 9 shoes, I think she needs an 11.

I'm a UK size 10 too. I've been know to attract a gaggle of shop assistants keen to look at the freak with flippers for feet. I'm only 5'8. It's tough.

Topshop now go up to a size 9 in some styles. Barrats do a Tall and Small range, and I think most of their range goes up to a size 9, and are on the big side. I have found that HushPuppies sizes are really generous, and you can get them from Barrats and Shuh. They go up to a size 9 too, which fits me fine. Jones also go up to a size 9 in some styles. Not a fan of Evans, too wide for me.

missblythe · 01/07/2008 13:04

New Look have lots of their styles up to a 9-lots of pretty flat pumps and flip-flops for her age group.

NotQuiteCockney · 01/07/2008 19:13

Ok, we went to Long Tall Sally, it was all way too old. Weirdly, that same street has four shops selling large women's shoes. Two were deffo old people's shoes, one was ok, and one had some shoes she liked, and got, so that was productive.

Freaky weird street, though.

Crispins, Chiltern St- W1.

Have a look at website.

WinkyWinkola · 01/07/2008 20:11

It is a weird street, NQC.

It's the other extreme of getting laughed out of ordinary shoe shops for being too large for their delicate wisps of leather into Freak Street where everyone is a freak so you can feel quite at home.

I'm a size 9 and I didn't enjoy that street!

NotQuiteCockney · 01/07/2008 20:12

I don't remember which one Crispins was - I think it was one of the ones she was 'meh' about? Maybe it was the okish one? Elephant Shoes was the one she found shoes she liked in. (She is, by her own account, quite fussy.)

There was Long Tall Sally, Magnus, Elephant Shoes, and one more.
