Cardigan - cosy but cool

DelphiniumBlue · 04/10/2026 12:48

I'm looking for a cosy cardigan to wear with joggers and casual clothes. Something at least hip length, probably with buttons, definitely with pockets. Could be dark or bright, could be patterned or plain. Similar style to this, which is OK but a bit meh.
I love this from Religion, but it only goes up to a 16 and I'm a 20.
Has anyone seen anything that might fit the bill?

It's very quiet here today.

I'm following as I used to love a cardigan but understand they are not the one anymore, unless buttoned up? I once had a truly beautiful one (longer and open) from Anthropology, maybe have a look there OP?

Hello the pic isn’t showing yet. Next have some nice longline cardigans in at the minute. X

I always wear them not buttoned up and mostly long as a lot of mine don’t have buttons. Do people really care what I’m wearing on the school run and whether or not I’m fashionable or not?
The thought of not wearing an item of clothing I like because someone else decided they aren’t in anymore really confuses me. Maybe I’m being secretly laughed at behind my back but at least my arms are warm and I feel comfy :) x

How about Uniqlo? They do good knitwear in a broad size range.
I think more cardigans this season seem to cotton all the way up to a round neck but they have some similar to the one you like?

The best cardigan I have worn is from NZ.

Possum merino wool Lothloriun. Comes in delphinium blue and berry colours.

The Tin Shed, NZ.

Always hand wash in woolmix.

I think these are cosy, but I'm not sure they'd count as cool.
I was in the shop in London during the summer and I loved the colours and the fabrics, but tbh it was far too bloody hot to consider clothes shopping.

I'm still undecided tbh, but the sizing works for me (size 22) and the quality looked decent

Lots of nice suggestions, I’m going to get the Next patterned one.
Thanks to everyone who has made suggestions.

Thank you. I did look on the GS site, but their knitwear tends to be quite heavy and designed for someone more Valkyrie than me, with strapping shoulders fit for a shield maiden.

Cardigans are described as matronly on here but I love them regardless 😆

I like this one from Boden but it’s sold out in a lot of sizes -

This Next one is a similar vibe - https://www.next.co.uk/style/sv058364/y50271

Burgundy Next with pockets - https://www.next.co.uk/style/sv029671/v77574

Lovely burgundy no pockets - https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-cashmere-belted-cardigan/berry/p115303569

Dark grey one - https://www.marksandspencer.com/edge-to-edge-pocket-longline-cardigan/p/clp23096357

I’d look on Vinted too.

Oh dear, I somehow managed to quote the wrong person! Fab suggestions TTT, thank you.

Oh how I really wish I'd not clicked on that Religion cardigan, I want that so badly but it's very much out of my budget atm.

OP, have you looked at the cardigans on the Never Fully Dressed website? I would love one of those but again, out of my budget.

DelphiniumBlue · 05/10/2026 17:18

Yes, I’ve been very tempted by NFD cardigans but I agree they are very expensive. I’d like to see the Religion one IRL, I m wondering how warm and thick it is ( don’t want too hot).

I agree, I wear skinny jeans and unbuttoned cardigans. I feel comfortable in them and couldn’t give the tiniest shit if people look at me and think I’m not trendy! Fashion is so bizarre to me.

You should wear exactly what you like and want to wear. I just commented on the current trends because OP said she wanted to look fashionable.

Roman has lovely cardigans as has Edinburgh Woollenmill. And very reasonable prices.

Me too - my fav outfit. Rather that than those lounge suits in grey or beige any day!

Superdry sometimes have nice ones, including some longer ones and interesting fabrics. Not sure what they have in right now but might be worth a look.
