Mother of the Groom in 8 weeks!

Please help me! My son is getting married in 8 weeks and I haven’t a clue what to wear. So far I’ve ordered three dresses online (Coast, Lavish Alice and Florere) and have sent them all back. Earlier this week I had a personal stylist appointment at John Lewis, bought 3 items (Hobbs dress, Reiss dress and Phase Eight jumpsuit), but not sure any of them are right. Also ordered a jumpsuit from Me+Em, not yet received. I don’t know if that will be right either, I know it will need shortening about 6 inches!
I’m 5’3, 9st 6, have lost 7 stone over last 3 years. Blue eyes, brown hair/blond highlights. i think the colours that suit me best are greens/golds/sandy but not at all rigid except that pastel colours make me look washed out.
There’s a register office wedding service and then the bigger wedding ‘do’ 3 days later, so I need two outfits! Budget about £400ish for both. I just feel so much of what I’m seeing is so ‘bland’ and ordinary, I want to feel a bit more cool and funky but still smart of course.
Would really appreciate some help or suggestions of makers/brands I’m not aware of… thanks in advance.

There’s no colour code for the wedding, apart from I’m not to wear white/cream of course. Only bridesmaid is wearing bottle/dark green I believe. No idea what bride’s mother is going to be wearing. Don’t think it’s been bought yet. Her parents live abroad and I haven’t met them. The bride told me her mum is ’a big fan of Reiss’ so that’s all I know. The brown dress I’ve bought is from Reiss. No guidance on hats but think I probably won’t.

The brown dress was very nice on you OP, but did it come in another colour?

Nobody's Child rates well on ethics & sustainability. This satin dress comes in several colours as well as in a petite size.

Thanks, @EleanorMc67I like the look of this in the red…

I like the Alexis.

I'm less keen on the other as I just feel those sorts of busy patterns tend to wear people - especially if you are petite. (Though I liked the dress with wrap that your friend liked, which surprised me!)

I think we're the only two on the thread who liked it ...!!!

Another vote for the brown. Looks great on you. I agree that the length doesn’t look quite right, but think it would with a heel.

This, I think, has enough detail to lift it from daywear, especially if paired with gold jewellery & a great bag & footwear. Also petite & in the Reiss sale. It's a shade that can look good on blondes.

I think I like this!

Or is it this one? They seem quite similar.

Yes, it’s this one. The brown one I’ve bought is this, called ‘mocha’.

Have you bought a petite?

This is rather pretty in this deep pink - but from the other colours it looks like a popular bridesmaid choice - & the bow at the back is a bit girly.

To me, the Mint Velvet black, grey and white patterned one looks cheap, but it's the best so far. It's the material (stretchy, synthetic, sweaty) that makes it look that way.
But the brown patterned one with the matching shawl is a travesty. Horrendous. Dowdy. 1992 called and they want their dress back. It reminds me of something Princess Anne might drag from the back of her wardrobe.
The blue patterned one, also horrendous, extremely dated. Never shop with that friend again.
The others are plain and boring, something you might wear to the office. Look for something without pattern but in a luxurious fabric. I imagine, seeing how the other jump suit fits on you, that any Me&Em jump suit will not fit well. They cut for someone very tall, but, as it fits in the body, it isn't simply a matter of taking the hem up.
What about something like:

Hardly what I would call a luxurious fabric, polyester and acetate!

I really like the jumpsuit and brown dress on you , but don’t know if they say mother of the groom .. and your hair cut it fine but the colour needs freshening up , it looks a bit yellow ., you look fantastic though and well done on the amazing weight loss .

Love the Reiss Satin One-Shoulder Draped Midi Dress in Lilac Purple.

A few other petite things in the Whistles sale that it might be worth trying.

Nooo, I bought it in John Lewis from the personal stylist appointment… I don’t think it’s a petite, I’ll have to check. My sister commented on the photo and said she thought it was too long…

I think she's right. And - as I've said already - I don't think brown is a good choice (unless maybe in satin or velvet). It's much nicer in the green, but if that's not an option, I think there are other better choices.

I think the red dress looks lovely on you and so does the jumpsuit.

Polyester, but mostly recycled. Again, it's Boden petite.

Nice! I’ve ordered this in 10 Petite in both the red and blue to try. 😍
