Mother of the Groom in 8 weeks!

Please help me! My son is getting married in 8 weeks and I haven’t a clue what to wear. So far I’ve ordered three dresses online (Coast, Lavish Alice and Florere) and have sent them all back. Earlier this week I had a personal stylist appointment at John Lewis, bought 3 items (Hobbs dress, Reiss dress and Phase Eight jumpsuit), but not sure any of them are right. Also ordered a jumpsuit from Me+Em, not yet received. I don’t know if that will be right either, I know it will need shortening about 6 inches!
I’m 5’3, 9st 6, have lost 7 stone over last 3 years. Blue eyes, brown hair/blond highlights. i think the colours that suit me best are greens/golds/sandy but not at all rigid except that pastel colours make me look washed out.
There’s a register office wedding service and then the bigger wedding ‘do’ 3 days later, so I need two outfits! Budget about £400ish for both. I just feel so much of what I’m seeing is so ‘bland’ and ordinary, I want to feel a bit more cool and funky but still smart of course.
Would really appreciate some help or suggestions of makers/brands I’m not aware of… thanks in advance.

@OneNewEagleThanks, I’m liking the Oasis dress in black actually - surprised because I never wear black - but the colour in the print makes a big difference. Green quite nice too. I might order those to try…?

Yeah I like both too OP I like all the autumn colours green, golds, reds. So both dresses have those colours in them. You said you suit green etc so I thought they might be ok, especially as you look quite pale like me.

me+Em jumpsuit this is the jumpsuit I’ve ordered but not yet received. I feel like it’s really ‘me’ so I’m hoping it will look good on, albeit the model in the picture is 6 inches taller than me… any thoughts?

too long I don’t like it. I’m 5 4 so I avoid anything like that

Have you looked at Phase Eight. They have some beautiful dresses

OneNewEagle · Yesterday 14:29

I think it’s a cape sort of style dress OP. If you go to Debenhams John Lewis etc put in cape dress and lots show up.

This one looks lovely

Sorry haven't read all the comments but I loved the red/burgundy one with the pleated skirt best and that would definitelywork for a registry office. The chocolate one is a great shape on you but I think would look stunning in a different colour. The outfit you are wearing standing in front of the red curtain is amazing! Really shows off your fabulous figure and would definitely be MOG enough for the 'big' bit of the wedding.

Unfortunately I'm not a fan of the jump suit and they are not the most practical of outfits!

Good luck (and well done on your weight loss).

Right, encouraged by you all, I’m going into town (Bath) to look round a few shops, I’ll catch up with you later. If any of you know the Bath area, hit me up with your suggestions for where I can get a great cut and colour in the next few weeks which won’t cost as much or more than the two outfits I’ve already got to buy!

No suggestions but good luck OP. Can’t wait to see what you find.

Glad you’re still looking, you look lovely in the burgundy dress and navy jumpsuit step away from the brown autumn colours one, in front red curtain it’s hideous. Good luck!

TokyoSushi · Yesterday 15:31

Brown or jumpsuit look lovely on you, I think you look better in a block colour than a pattern. Does the brown dress come in any other colours? It would look nice in a jewel colour, but the style really suits you!

I think you look very nice in the dark red dress

Here’s some of the things I’ve tried/bought and might return:
Reiss dress - brown, boring, too long?, red Hobbs dress - very comfy, is it smart enough?, teal Phase Eight jumpsuit - bit boring/twee?, two piece dress+ jacket bought on Vinted - love the colours, John Lewis stylist said it was ‘a bit old fashioned’?, last floral one I tried on yesterday in a boutique - my friend loved it, just don’t know!

That vented 2 piece with the boots (I know you'll probably wear different shoes though) looks really nice, love that.

I like the red hobb dress and the jumpsuit on you. The others are old fashioned.

Brown is stunning and great with bright accessories. Red one is nice. The rest are awful.

Exactly this the brown dress is beautiful for an autumn wedding

That is spot on. Looks far more pricy than the cost and the right amount of dressings for the ceremony! Well done!

WarmLilacHiker · Yesterday 16:32

The jumpsuit really flatters your figure! You look great in that, the red and the brown. I really like the green jumpsuit you linked so fingers crossed that suits. I'm not sure the patterned ones are really right for you.

ihaveafavouritecat · Yesterday 16:45

I’ve just tried this on in Mint Velvet, I think I like it. What do you think? Am I just collecting dresses?!

The Me&M jumpsuit is amazing

Ruthietuthie · Yesterday 17:36

To me, the Mint Velvet black, grey and white patterned one looks cheap, but it's the best so far. It's the material (stretchy, synthetic, sweaty) that makes it look that way.
But the brown patterned one with the matching shawl is a travesty. Horrendous. Dowdy. 1992 called and they want their dress back. It reminds me of something Princess Anne might drag from the back of her wardrobe.
The blue patterned one, also horrendous, extremely dated. Never shop with that friend again.
The others are plain and boring, something you might wear to the office. Look for something without pattern but in a luxurious fabric. I imagine, seeing how the other jump suit fits on you, that any Me&Em jump suit will not fit well. They cut for someone very tall, but, as it fits in the body, it isn't simply a matter of taking the hem up.
What about something like:
