Recommendations for soft barrel-leg cord trousers with pockets? (Not L&Y!)

Does any have specific recs/links for soft balloon/tapered/barrel-leg cords with pockets, please? I've been a big fan of the Lucy & Yak Billie for years but have pulled them out this week and they don't look quite right. I think the silhouette isn't exaggerated enough now maybe? I quite like the look of the £36 M&S ones although the silver rivets are very silver.

Does anyone have any lovely comfortable soft ones they can recommend, please? I'd be particularly in favour of a semi-elasticated waistband 😂 I'm 12-14, 5ft7ish and would like ankle grazers ideally (not full-length) but I could take them up if I had to.

Oooh place marking as this is what I’m looking for too. 😊

Have seen these in store..hopefully link works. Love them.

Have you looked at Halara? I’ve got a couple of pairs of their jeans and they’re SO nice and soft. They do cords, too. They are a generous fit - I’m a 12-14 and the medium is still pretty roomy on me. Unfortunately only on line, though.

NorthFacingGardener · 01/10/2026 17:29

I ordered some Hush ones which seem nice but I’ve returned them as they were too big (I’m 10-12 on the bottom and ordered a Small). I will probably order them again in a smaller size.

LadyRoughDiamond · 01/10/2026 17:32

Have you looked at Toast? They do a trouser in this style every year and so they’re n the site and often on Vinted too.

Nitgel · 01/10/2026 17:53

Uniqlo these look ok. I was going home trying them tomorrow.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 01/10/2026 18:41

Toast, Beyond Nine, Muthahood Goods, Sahara, Tu @ Sainsbury’s (and online) all do this shape in various fabrics. Tu currently have some black jumbo cords in a barrel leg.

BarryKentPoet · 01/10/2026 18:58

I really like the ones Next have in just now.

desperatemum1234 · 01/10/2026 19:10

I got these on Amazon and like them a lot.
I also bought some a while ago on Style Attic online, but not sure if they still have them. Moo Boutique online also has lots of barrel trousers.

Was coming on to say this. Not cheap but extremely good quality and can be worn day after day. Super comfy and smart.

Halara have really shitty credentials re sustainability, working conditions etc I believe. They're essentially not far off Shein in terms of all that, just a bit dearer. But run on the same fast-fashion model.

I have some brown cord ones from next, not sure if they are the ones posted by @ringsnthings though but they are this season. They are lovely, very soft and comfortable. Like all next things though they are absolutely huge, I’m a definite 12 and I think the 8 fitted, I bought the 10 🤷‍♀️ definitely try on if you can!

I totally agree with you. I’ve ordered a pair of trousers from there and they are the worst quality I’ve ever owned. I’m embarrassed that I fell for the smoke and mirrors of it.

SirChenjins · 01/10/2026 20:09

I bought the Next ones recently and love them.

I think it's quite hard nowadays as there are so many enticing-looking brands popping up on Instagram, or just on Google when you do a search for something?

So it's probably quite easy to get sucked in by the advertising etc.

If a brand is new to me, I just do a quick search, firstly asking if it's legit, & secondly what its sustainability credentials are.

Though I almost always buy second-hand, so that reduces the environmental impact a lot (& how much it costs me!!).

M&S and Fat Face

Hephebe · 01/10/2026 21:21

Thanks all! I priced out of Toast a while back, even on Vinted tbf, but I'll take a look.

I'm particularly keen for any specific style recommendations/links - I'm too tired at the moment to travel through all the retailers, although I know how lazy that sounds 😳

Has anyone tried the M&S barrel cords?

I've tried some Uniqlo velvet ones in-store before, which looked a very similar shape, and the shape didn't do anything for me sadly. It's such a specific thing! I have a great pair of Levi Cinch Horseshoe leg jeans and if they did those in cord I'd be made up!

I have the M&S ones in black and olive, very comfy, would recommend. Also have the next ones in brown and cream, also comfy and perfect for autumn winter. I buy short in both brands, I’m 5ft4 and they’re just the right length for barrel leg. Tried the fat face ones and weren't a good fit at all.

triggers34 · 01/10/2026 22:29

I recently bought next barrel dungarees which are lovely , kind of a free people dupe . I also have a toast pair they are my favourite but pricey . I did spot next had a very similar to toast elastic waist corduroy £36 I think . I bought the remi ones by beyond 9 from Vinted - I’m 5ft 2 perfect length -but S size was a bit snug , my daughter nicked them 😂 I’m toying with buying them full price .

Mykittensmittens · 01/10/2026 22:29

I’ve been buying from here for years: https://www.laundryb.com

they have several barrels and load of that style in cord and not cord. The ‘basso’ pant in cord is really nice.

I have a pair of these and they are super soft and comfy. They’re from a small family business based in the UK I believe.

I tried some on in Anthropologie which I loved but were beyond my budget - might just be in yours?

I have the M&S ones in spice and olive, they are very comfortable, I went a size 12, I'm size 12-14 so probably size down if you are between sizes and bought the long, I'm 5'10"

HelenHywater · Yesterday 12:33

uniqlo? Also Beyond Nine? I find them massively baggy though
