Any at home alternatives to builder gel

Any suggestions for alternatives to builder gel/nail extensions etc that I can do at home?
I have very short, soft nails, they break/split very easily. They always have done since I was young.
I don’t bite my nails but they are very short. I have quite small hands with very small nail beds.

In the past I have tried acrylic nail extensions and gel extensions, all of which look lovely for about 7 days and then they start to lift and come off entirely over the following few days.
If I have a set of nail extensions to go on holiday with they are usually gone by the time I come home 2 weeks later.

Last year I tried builder gel on my natural nails hoping to grow them, the first few attempts were awful as the gel lifted off about 5 days, eventually the beautician started making the gel thicker and they did last longer. They eventually grew then the gel started lifting again, my nails broke and I gave up.

I have similar issues if I have ever had lash extensions, they lashes are usually all gone by the time I’m due for two week maintenance.

I would love to have nails that looked cared for, they don't have to be long but a little extra length would be nice.

Are they any gels, nail polishes etc that I can use at home to achieve this?

I don’t mind buying a kit, I’ve spent so much time and money in nail salons over the years that I’d rather do my own now.

Any suggestions appreciated, thank you

I don't know about home solutions, but my nail tech uses a hard gel base on mine as I was suffering with lifting and they now last up to 4 weeks.

I had Builder gel for a few weeks, every 2 weeks. I now use Rimmel (7 in one I think) clear, or another nail hardener, changing it every 5 days or so. I also take calcium prescribed by Dr (The iCal) for osteoporosis prevention.

Yes! My nails are the same. Stupidly soft and weak and bendy and builder gel would pop off unless it was a super rigid one.

I now use candy claws. They are bloody brilliant press ons that I get up to 3 weeks from. They take about 15 mins to prep properly and apply. I get the odd pop off but just glue straight back on. They look just like when I used builder gel, I've never had acrylics but these are made of acrylic so I would imagine are similar and are super strong. My daughter now uses them too,

We are about to try opul nails simply because candy claws don't do the blue I want, though my daughter just paints hers with whatever colour she wants anyway.

Totally recommend candy claws - game changer.

I’m no expert, but without exception, all of my friends that have Biab, gels, shellac etc have just ruined their nails.

Why not just use a good basecoat and regular nail varnish for a few months and restore your nails to health?
