Want to treat myself, 2-300 pounds

Tomorrow I am 1000 days sober! Nobody except my husband knows. He has told me to buy myself something nice. I've given myself that budget. I know that's not a huge amount to some people, but i personally think it's loads for one item. What to buy? Vinted has me ruined. I buy good quality brands on there. We don't have a large income but I've been able to buy a good wool coat or 2, leather boots, some leather handbags. A few cashmere jumpers. So what can I buy? Anything that's worth buying new? I must say i don't value the stuff I buy on vinted because it's so easy to come by. So maybe something new and carefully chosen would be valued? I'm unsure. Any thoughts?

I would buy a nice piece of jewellery.

TheSandgroper · 22/09/2026 14:30

Absolutely. Something frivolous. Is there a city with a jewellery quarter near you? I love antique jewellery. It’s so pretty and feminine.

Either that or a painting. Something that gives you joy every day.

HermioneWeasley · 22/09/2026 14:34

Congratulations, that’s an amazing achievement.

Teenmam · 22/09/2026 14:43

Thank you all. I was thinking jewellery but I have a lot and dont wear a lot. I do keep meaning to though! I like the idea of something frivolous!

Amazing @Teenmam
I would have (another) trip to Liberty of London, a mooch around, to buy perfume, eat scones, and pick up any other frivolous nonsense that took my eye.

(I bought beautiful ribbon to tie onto my suitcase and stupidly expensive bar of soap )

Evergreenz · 22/09/2026 15:11

First off, congratulations! I'm going to ruin the mood though by saying that if there is nothing you are dying to buy for yourself, and you have all the clothes and jewellery you need at the moment, why cast about for something to randomly spend money on? How about a special meal out or an experience to remember, like tickets to the theatre? Or put the money aside as your '1000 days fund' to spend sometime in the coming months when you DO see something you want to splurge on?

Yesreallyitsme · 22/09/2026 15:13

Amazing, well done! And coincidentally, I hit 1000 days sober yesterday 😁. I agree with jewellery being a good idea - I’ve treated myself to a new kindle as my old one didn’t hold battery any more.

ThirdStorm · 22/09/2026 15:36

That's amazing, well done. Maybe buy yourself something that reminds you about your achievement?

LaurieFairyCake · 22/09/2026 15:38

Perfume? My favourite is £260 a bottle (Frederic Malle).

I also would go to Liberty. It’s such an amazing achievement being 100 days sober I would likely buy perfume, Diptyque candle, a notebook, hand cream - and have it all out on that evening. Along with a non alcoholic drink to raise a toast to yourself.

CortieTat · 22/09/2026 16:56

This is amazing, well done! I like to buy myself Hermès scarves for important events in my life. You will be able to find a smaller one (55 bandana) within that budget or a larger one at £395 (new straight from Hermès). Used ones can be cheaper or more expensive, there’s a lot of choice. Every time I reach for one of my scarves it reminds me of that special event, so I consider this money well spent.

ShanghaiDiva · 22/09/2026 16:58

congratulations!
I would buy a piece of jewellery as a permanent reminder of your achievement.

ThatLilacTiger · 22/09/2026 17:25

If I had that money to spend on myself, I'd be getting the Sephora advent calendar.

Tortephant · 22/09/2026 18:21

Jewellery, and wear it.

Floisme · 22/09/2026 19:56

Congratulations! I’d buy something vintage that has a history e.g. a Horrockses dress or something with a CC41 (World War 2) label. But that’s my thing. Is there something you’re passionate about whether S&B related or otherwise?

Smallinthesmoke · 22/09/2026 20:02

Many many congratulations to both @Teenmam and @yesreallyitsme !!! I would get a spendy beauty advent calendar so I could feel the reward every day for a month.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/09/2026 21:32

Huge congratulations. I’d go with a piece of jewellery, either a necklace that I could wear every day or a silver bangle.

Ilovecheeseyah · 22/09/2026 21:33

Congratulations- i salute you. When i was in the same situation i bought myself a cavalier King Charles puppy. Endless joy and the best anti depressive :-)

Flannelfeet · 22/09/2026 21:37

Thats brilliant, I hope you feel really amazing ❤️. I would buy a thomas sabo/Pandora bracelet (or necklace) and add a new charm each month you get through...like a small reminder of how great you are doing. 😁

Gertlushthatis · 22/09/2026 21:40

Well done! Although I had assumed by the thread title that you were going to treat yourself to treats that would gain you 2-300lbs. that would be a lot of cheesecake.

Yogafiend · 22/09/2026 21:43

First of all congratulations!!! If you don’t wear jewellery then what about a nice face cream? Or a day at a spa??

Overthemoun · 22/09/2026 21:53

Nice bed sheets
a really good hair cut

I’d like these https://uk.coach.com/products/c-rivet-mary-jane/CCG46.html

or a lovely jacket for this time of year, but it depends what you’re hankering after!

ChocolateCinderToffee · 22/09/2026 22:03

Are you in London? I’d take myself out for an opera or ballet, if you want to take your husband with you, £300 would buy you a fairly good seat each.

LoftyCoralBird · 22/09/2026 22:05

I’d buy a small painting for my wall

Teenmam · 22/09/2026 22:22

Thank you all so much for the congratulations and lovely suggestions. I think I'm going to get a gorgeous advent calendar and/or a beautiful scarf. I'm excited to look. Never would have thought of this myself!
