Where all all the knee length dresses?!

Hello your beautiful stylists!
Im on the lookout for a knee length dress to suit my just under 5ft 4in height. I’m a usual size 12. I want something plain in colour. I’ve got a few smart / formal events to attend and I want something that has a bit of a wow factor. Is this possible? Anything below the knee seems to drown me. 🙏

How smart?

And where do you usually shop? AKA what’s your budget?

PlayingMyBongos · 20/09/2026 11:55

Watching!

So sick of long dresses.

MimiTheMinkey · 20/09/2026 11:57

Vinted

I've no suggestions - I have knobbly knees so I will never wear a knee length dress anymore! And when I sat down in one, my thunder thighs would frighten the horses. 😊

Long live the midi I say!

Sorry OP, I'm sure you will get lots of great suggestions from knee length lovers!

Smart enough for christening, formal occasions. I’m not a great shopper. I live in jeans and work from home and haven’t had many occasions but ive a few coming up. Budget is up to £150. Thanks so much for responding 🙏

I know. They don’t do anything for me at all!

I bought a couple of long dresses last week and shortened them. Obviously won’t work for all styles.

I’ve done that on occasion it’s just more cost. I’m not confident enough to shorten a dress myself and I don’t have a sewing machine.

Nobody's Child have some nice knee length dresses. And they have a sale on at the moment too

ASOS have great filtering options, you can filter for midi dress - and then by type (work/bridesmaid/summer etc) . New Look are pretty good too. Most high street stores lower and higher ends will allow you to filter in the dress sections by length. Midi dresses are still everywhere! Zara has some too, although they have mixed theirs in with the maxis unfortunately!

I'm a size 10-12 and 5ft 4 and I buy most things from Vinted, unfortunately you do have to trawl through pictures to get the label size if the seller hasn't included it in their description which is very annoying, no idea why they got rid of the individual size options.

I have ordered this for myself but not sure how long it will be. I am five 3 and a Cos fan. I don’t wear prints and prefer simple stuff but it’s not for everyone I know.

It's not hard. Find a brand you know and already own - Phase 8 for eg if you are into knee length, they've been doing this length for decades - and work out your size, and filter for that on Vinted. It's not rocket science. If you're a 12 you select medium, if you're a 16 you choose large. Then in the photos you check the label on the dress to make sure. Simples! You will find literally hundreds.

Summerhillsquare · 23/09/2026 11:20

Seasalt. Plus John Lewis selling literally hundreds of dresses across dozens of brands and has a good search function, must be something there surely.

Asda has always been good for knee length dress

EleanorMc67 · 24/09/2026 03:24

Or something with a slight shimmer? All depends on what your idea of "a bit of a wow factor" is??! I could suggest ones that are fancier, but if you're not used to dressing up I think they might be a bit OTT.

Have you considered wearing a skirt as a dress?

I regularly click on XXL to find that something I like is a 12 or 14. Vinted sizing is all out of wack.
