Is soft wax for a Hollywood normal, or should I change salons?

I’ve just moved and had to find a new beauty therapist for waxing.

I had my first appointment and she did my Hollywood using soft/strip wax rather than hard wax. I was so sore afterwards and red for over a week.

Is it normal to have a Hollywood done this way? I have only ever had hard wax which for me is less painful and the redness disappears quickly. I don’t know whether to find another salon or put up with it.

If you were sore and red afterwards it seems a no brainer you should find another beautician, somewhere that offers Lycon wax perhaps.

In my experience, Hollywoods and Brazilians are only done with hot wax.

Ooof, hot wax only! Lycon preferably

Thank you for your responses. I didn’t even think to ask how it would be done as I presumed hot wax was the norm. I thought maybe I’d had a bit of a reaction as it was my first time with strip wax but I’ll find somewhere else.

I remember in the early days (almost 20 years ago) you had to specify/pay extra for Lycon or hard wax. Maybe this place is the same?
And so when I first started getting them, I had strip wax and it certainly is so much more painful that Lycon. So it isn't a bad reaction, that's just what a Hollywood with strip wax feels like.

I only do hot wax, not all beauty therapists know how to use it. Last time I forgot to check they would use hot wax, and they ripped my skin 😖.

I’d only use a salon that uses Lycon wax

My waxer uses hot wax with strips and it's by far the least painful option for me. The wax that went hard and had to have the corner picked before it could be ripped off was way more uncomfortable and a couple of times over the years I've been left with small tears. She's super quick though and it's done very fast.

Ouch! Personally I would only have a Hollywood done with hot wax - I’ve found it made a considerable difference in comfort level at the time, post-wax irritation, and better results in actually pulling hair out from the root - warm wax/strips seems to just break my hair off at the surface, but I have very coarse/stubborn hair!!
