Honestly do you see Man's shoes here? I always considered docs as unisex but ASOS are absolutely marketing these as mens.
I really want a pair of brown dm shoes to wear with jeans / smart trousers etc. Could these work?

They show up in the women's section of section of the DM website when you browse for shoes, if that helps. The link comes up as unisex when you click on it. Wear the shoes. I do.

I have some shoes very, very similar. They are manly but that's why I like them. They are also very comfortable and stylish.

Obviously, I have never ever been mistaken for a man because of a pair of shoes.

I think you'd be fine. Get your EU size as EU sizes are unisex and UK sizes aren't. The other thing to be aware of is that some footwear brands do actually take account of sex differences in foot shape. These are only population differences, so an individual's foot shape may not show the sex-typical shape. It's a while since I looked at this, but the one I remember is that women tend to have narrower heels and more widening from the midfoot to the toes.
