Skincare routine for 40s, sensitive skin- please share what works for you

I am looking to improve my current skincare regime, late 40s and sensitive skin so cannot use things with e,g, artificial fragrance in etc. I have been using g NY frankincense cream for a long time and although it is excellent, I’m not sure it is quite enough now as I am heading into menopause etc…
My main concerns are I’ve recently noticed my lower face area is started to sag and around the corners of my mouth. Fine lines around my eyes. Very noticeable eye bags…

I love reading about others’ skincare routines so please share if you have similar skin to mine!

This is my current regime:

a.m
NY frankincense facial mist
NY Vit C serum (3 days a week)
NY Frankincense nourishing cream
SPF

p.m
LRP Toleriane Cream Cleanser
Ren Ready Steady Go (once a week is the most my skin is happy with )
NY frankincense facial oil or rose hydrating oil
NY Frankincense nourishing cream

Once a week a facial massage with The Ordinary organic rosehip oil / NY wild rose beauty balm
Once a week a facial mask - NY frankincense hyaluronic acid mask (but see this has been discontinued)

Thank you 🙏

Is it dry combination or oily? I have dry sensitive skin.

Idofeelbetter · 13/09/2026 14:55

I have very sensitive skin with a touch of rosacea. I use natural skin care which consists of:
a.m
Homemade toner
Cosrx peptides
Vitamin c serum
Madagascar Centella serum
Homemade oil moisturiser
p.m
Olive oil clean and remove make up.
Beef tallow and cucumber soap to wash face.
Homemade toner
Hyaluronic acid
Homemade evening moisturiser.

I also use retinal Seoul 1988 serum every other night and do facial/neck massage every morning.
Gua sha and cupping in the evening.

i always get compliments on my youthful skin. I’m 47 and started taking care of my skin in the past 2/3 years. It makes a massive difference.

@redjaffacake used to be combination but now I would say just dry.

thank you @Idofeelbetter for your detailed routine.

I have thought about making my own products before, is it easy to do?

I will have a look at Madagascar Centella and Seoul 1988 serum, I haven’t heard of those before.

I use cerave hydrating foaming wash or oil wash in am and then dr ceramidin or aveeno calm and restore.

Make up removal I use a melting balm and currently have some Elemis but body shop camomile is nice too. Followed by cerebra wash again. I then might use the LRP CICAPlast balm, followed by Eucerin urea repair night cream

the eucerin urea repair night cream is immense. It’s a thick tacky cream but oh my got plump baby soft skin the next morning.

I also have used avene cicalfate which is ok. No miracle product, I thought LRP would be a miracle but alas not.

My skin is so demanding! I cannot miss a day. This is purely for hydration and barrier repair, but it looks a lot better, fresher, plumper and smoother. I will now move to look treatments for fine lines and I rhinitis a retinol I need

Thank you for this @redjaffacake

I have been thinking about trying Cerave products as I’ve heard good things about them. Avenoo though made my skin immediately red and itchy so I steer clear of that brand.

I use LRP cleanser and it is excellent, no fragrance, no irritation at all so I think I will try the Cicaplast balm you recommend and I have made a note of the Eucerin Uea Repair cream.

Also wondering about my fine lines and sagging but will keep up with my massage for now.

Aveeno calm and restore is fine but the other ones can be a bit fragranced. Have to be so careful and it it’s so expensive trying all these creams!

i Actually use chat gpt to help decide a skin care routine. It was really good. I think a peptide serum would be next. I look for ceramides and cica.

im also interested in the ordinary moisturiser with NMF and squalane is next in the list and some CORSX barrier one as well. Cerave moisturiser rates highly too but not tried it

SulkingInTheCatio · 16/09/2026 13:39

It seems the Cerave is definitely popular.

What’s the illyoon like? Have that on my list!

and the azealic acid for redness? Is it rosacea related or just sensitivity? I have nose mouth and chin redness from dryness sensitivity.

thanks for starting this thread OP

Both excellent. Two of my favourite products. I got the azelic mainly for a hopeful glass skin effect but I did have slightly red cheeks before and that’s gone. The barrier cream is really hydrating and soothing.
