Recommendations for smart slip resistant trainers for rainy Porto cobbles

I’m trying to find some very grippy, slip resistant smart trainers that will be good for walking around Porto (polished cobbled hills) in the rain. I don’t want walking boots as we’ll be going to nice restaurants. All the ‘slip resistant’ shoes I’m finding are either hiking style or clogs for healthcare professionals.

I know what you mean - trainers with a rubber based sole rather than plastic have been very grippy for me. I have some from M&S and FatFace that have been brilliantly grippy even walking down wet, steep granite steps and cobbles.

Last year I saw slip resistant runners in a Sketchers shop. They are Sketchers work wear so are designed to be non slip.
They are made for say people working in kitchens or in health care.

If you look up Sketchers work wear runners for women on Amazon it will bring these up along with other brand names. I bought a pair of these Skechers last year with laces.
I walk on tarmac, paths ect and then have to walk into shops ect with tiles in wet weather and found these good last winter.

I bought another pair this year that are a lighter type runner than last year but to they have a non slip sole. It might be worth it having a look to see what lightweight type of runner they have available at the moment.

I’ve got some v comfortable and decent looking trainers from Ecco - maybe have a look at their goretex range? Feels like any trainers that have water proof construction will be likely to have a decent sensible sole too. My Ecco ones (couple of years ago) were good walking through the slippy wet streets of Seville, though they weren’t waterproof and I did get very wet feet (though I didn’t slip at all).

The ones I’m finding are mesh uppers and if it’s raining they’ll be a nightmare. I’ve got some sketchers (lace ups) that are supposedly all terrain and they’re shocking on wet pavements but great for astro turf! I can’t believe how difficult this is. The ones with vibram non-slip soles are men’s (so size 6 upwards) or very much hiking chunky etc.

Exactly! So many are mesh uppers. 🙄

I remember being a big scaredy cat walking on the cobbles in Lisbon. It wasn't even raining. I live in rainy and cobbly Edinburgh and usually wear Ecco leather trainers when it's wet.
