Do you plan / style / care about your gym / activewear as a wardrobe category?

I have realised that despite being very interested in style and fashion, my gym / running kit is a random assorted collection, acquired or gifted by DH without any consideration other than function. Some if it is so old, it’s cool again. All Nike, and a little Goodmove.

I have done some scrolling for inspiration - I have lived under the rock, there is so much nice stuff - from coords for every kind of activity to complimentary but not matching kit. Not sure if and what I am really going to do to up my game in this section. It maybe nice motivation for dark winter months not to get lazy.

Curious to hear if there is anyone here actively curating their activewear and what that looks like exactly - how much do you have, do you stick to a colour palette, do you mix or match? Brand / high street?

Yes i do, i go to a posh health club gym and most people there make an effort with their gym gear.

My favourite are matching crop top/bra and leggings sets from Oysho (quite like sweaty Betty but Oysho is identical and half the price) - bravissimo sports bras and matching leggings for high impact. I don’t wear shorts much as I am self conscious about my thighs. I have some nice Stella McCartney for Adidas stuff too but it’s not as good performance wise as the Oysho sets.

Nope, most of my stuff (except shoes and bras) is via dd who gets really good sample/promotional/freebies through work, more than she can use herself so gets things for me(bigger size). Alas whilst I would love to say it gets put to good use, in reality not so much these days, I take my stuff because I know there’s a gym then don’t use it Blush though I do use under my motorcycle gear.

I only really spend on aybl leggings because they stay up and two good sports bras from M&S all of which are around 5 years old now. But then a big cotton t shirt all of which are probably a bit ratty.

You'll have to prise my uniqlo leggings off my cold dead gym body.

Other than that, I wear them when I get sweaty. As long as if feels OK and doesn't get in the way thats good enough.

What's on sale, mostly black. I have a couple pair of compression leggings and some gripper socks. Swimsuits are black tankinis. Tops are black tanks with sports bra underneath. Since I do quite a few home workouts, I might just wear shorts and a t shirt. Lately it's been a lot of Pilates with Izzy, stairs, rowing, and weight work. Old Navy has some nice workout gear that lasted for years of daily use.

I got a really nice gym bag from my gym as a reward and it even has a built in wet bag.

I'm mainly a runner who sometimes goes to the gym. SO for me the priorities are shoes, bras and leggings that don't fall down. The first 2 can be any colour (but I have a penchant for the prettier HOKA colourways). Leggings will be either blue, blue and grey or black and always SB zero gravity as they are the only ones that stay up over my non existent hips.. I try to match my tops to bottoms so black with black, blue with blue and grey with blue and grey but I don't go further than that.

Blueshape · 17/09/2026 18:52

Mine is mostly black shorts or leggings and tshirts or vests I've received through entering events.

I really dislike matching sets.

I’m waiting for some Abyl shorts off Vinted which I’m sadly quite excited about. I wear gym gear that makes me feel good.

Jerrybalanitis · 17/09/2026 20:04

Sweaty Betty and Skims hoodies and crops. Sometimes I seem to only ever wear riding or gym clothes out of work so spend more than is sensible but I love finally being thin and ripped so why not

hirsuteonHRT · 17/09/2026 20:06

i wear boring black but fun trainers and go for comfort. I do admire slim fellow gym goers who seem to wear high waisted leggings and solid sports bra top with a baggy crop t shirt on top. Not sure I could pull the look off but they make it look v cool.

SleeplessRoads · 17/09/2026 20:13

I have two lots of gym leggings - one Primark, one Nike. I have two sports bras (one pink Primark that I could wear as a top, another from Sainsbury’s but would need to be worn under clothes). I then have two main gym tee shirts that are in complementary colours to the leggings, but today just wore a different oversized tee as my normal gym tee shirts were in the wash.

So curate would oversell what I do - but I do have 6 items of gym clothing that are a bit capsule esque in that they’d look good in any combination.

What are the best non chafing knickers? For rowing machine or cycling more than running. But an hour or so a time. Is runderwear good for all exercise or just running?

butnotlikethatanymore · 19/09/2026 17:18

There is a PBP who often turns up asking about sports underwear … ❗️

hirsuteonHRT · 20/09/2026 07:14

Oh bother about PBP. I am not a weirdo. But can see the risk in replying . Any ideas where I could ask without worrying people? Not many specialist sports shops that aren’t running shops and it’s for different exercise. Think prob too niche for decathlon. Maybe I’ll message runderwear and ask.

LumpkinPumpkin · 20/09/2026 10:59

lol no, I grab a pair of shorts and an old race T-shirt or vest and off I go. I’m going to be sweaty and red faced within 5 minutes so any pretence at looking out together would go out of the window in seconds.

I think this is probably the difference between training and ‘going to the gym’

Just get some tri shorts. Knickers are always going to end up in your bum crack on a bike.

Was wondering about that. Would work on bike. Issue being that unisuits for rowing don’t have the tri padding. I don’t think they have adapted for female needs. Was wondering about commando but feels a bit ick. Have actually looked online and there are seamless big pants which might be the answer. Not glam but hopefully not too visible and too big to migrate too much. Thank you
