What to wear to this birthday lunch?

I’m invited to a birthday lunch at One Devonshire Gardens in a few weeks time. Having never been before, I’m not sure what I should wear.

Would a black jumpsuit and sandals be okay? Or any other suggestions would be welcome.

I think black jumpsuit and sandals would be fine for lunch at One Devonshire Gardens. Everywhere seems to be getting more casual in Glasgow and I wouldn't be surprised to see jeans and trainers in the dining room at lunchtime. It's nice to dress up for a birthday though.

Thanks for replying. It’s a private lunch in a hired room, and it’s a 70th birthday, where I only know the host and one other person, so can’t really gauge the dress code.

Why not ask the host what they're wearing then? They are best placed to know what they'd like the dress code to be. Last time I went out for a nice lunch in Glasgow (think tasting menu with wine flight in the West End) I was surprised by how casual everyone was. But if you're in a private dining room for a special occasion people might make more of an effort especially if the host like to dress up.

The host is away for a funeral just now, so I don’t want to ask her.

I’m going to go shopping today and see if I see anything suitable, so any suggestions still very much appreciated.
