Outfit ideas for a university reunion with a lounge suit dress code

I’ve got a university reunion coming up at the beginning of October, dress code is lounge suits. It‘s 20 years since my first term, and I haven’t seen lots of people for many years, and would like to look great!

Does anyone have any outfit suggestions/recommendations? I’m 39, 5’7 and a size 12, fairly evenly proportioned with small waist and would prefer to cover legs. I was thinking a dress but don’t know where to start!

What colours and shapes do you like do you have a picture of something you have and feel good in? Lounge suits is fairly broad most nice dresses will do

You could wear a silk shirt, well cut cigarette pants and a leather jacket. Or a light cashmere if it’s chilly - I like linen knits myself. Anythjng that sits well over a great pair of trousers.

I find dresses more difficult but I’d avoid a work type one. I think a shirt dress works well and there’s plenty in the sakes. The sales are a great place to start looking for separates too - eg Joseph has some great offers!

Thank you! I should have given a bit more info - I normally shop in Cos, Arket (&M&S) plus Jigsaw for work. I like looser and more androgynous styles rather than overly fitted/feminine (though do like dresses). Also budget is up to £300ish. I can tell that those Realisation Par dresses are beautiful but floral/prints aren’t really me. I like the cigarette trousers + silk shirt idea, though dont already have a leather jacket…I do have a nice tux style black jacket from Cos that might work.

@Incertus I love my soft leather biker jacket! They really are go anywhere pieces. I have a black one and a suede one in a neutral beige. When M&S do them, they are brilliant. Cheaper than Jigsaw and just as good. I find them perfect for the smart(ish) vibe! They sometimes do trucker jackets too in leather or suede and these can look great with a decent silk shirt and well cut trousers. I’m fond of cashmere under with a good scarf too.

I also quite like the preppy look at the moment. A good quality crochet style collared top is a good buy right now.
