I know they’re too big - but can I get away with them?

So I bought these shoes in a charity shop today. I’m a 4.5 and they’re a 5.5 so I knew they were too big when I tried them on. But they’re so comfy and they’re just the right colour to wear with a dress I’ve had trouble matching.
Honestly though - do they look stupid? Like I’m 5 years old wearing my mum’s shoes - or can I get away with them? I’ve looked on ebay and Vinted and can’t find them in my size unfortunatey.

I know they’re too big - but can I get away with them?

They're fine as long as you can walk ok

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 07/09/2026 00:44

I can walk fine in them, they're so comfy even though they're quite high wedges. Gotta love Clarks!! Thank you though!

I tend to wear a size or half a size up in open sandals because I want to keep my toes and I'm very clumsy (trip over air).

They look fine @JustHereForTheShitsAndGiggles and you are comfortable, can walk and have a matching outfit! Nothing but wins there.

They look fine, sometimes people wear sandals too small and their toes hang over. As long as they don't slop when you wear them.

BibbityBoppityTwo · 07/09/2026 05:51

Yes, it’s definitely better to have them slightly too big than the people who wear them too small with their toes or heals over the edge! I think these look fine.

They don’t look big to me, just a normal fit

wiredandtired · 07/09/2026 06:28

In my experience with shoes, if they feel wrong when I try them on but then I buy them anyway, I always regret it!

They don't look bad, but I wonder if the way they feel will bother you, they can't be comfy to walk in being that much longer than your feet?

hardshoulderr · 07/09/2026 06:29

They look nuts

PlantainArama · 07/09/2026 06:41

Look fine

However, I have a pair of too big sandals and the one area I have an issue is I sometimes catch them going up stairs. I tend to always jog up/ down stairs for some reason and that extra centimetre of shoe sticking out just catches if I don't remember to consciously think about my steps.

I have one foot size 5 and the other 5.5 very wide so I have in the past worn a 6 as nothing else fits. The curse of awkward size feet. They look ok to me. Is there excess shoe at the back too?
I get most of my shoes from ebay. I type in my shoe size 5.5 E or EE and get a lot of end of range Clarkes, hotter, M ans S and van dal really cheap and unworn. Its amazing what you can find.
