Newt in Somerset - what to wear?!

Anyone been to the newt in Somerset and can advise in what to pack? We’re going for the first time to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary- such a treat! But how dressed up / down is it? Thanks for your tips! X

That's down the road about 10 miles from me and I didnt even know it existed.
I would think well dressed would be the order of the day inside. Bruton is quite upper crust and country clothing during the day. Teeds, walking boots or similar. Change for dinner. It looks lovely.

I’m very envious! It’s my dream team to go there. I’d say it’s got a soho farmhouse ish vibe so you can wear aching really? But if you are cautious maybe smarter jeans, trainers and a top for day, (so maybe widelegs and a fitted top under a nice jacket) and trousers, possibly low heels or smart flats and a going out top for dinner.

It’s a great place to celebrate an anniversary, There are two restaurants there. The one in the main house is smarter than the one set in the farmhouse area a mile or so away which has separate accommodation, I wore dresses - Sézane one evening and Vivienne Westwood the other. Jeans and a nice top would also have fitted in well. Hope you have a lovely time.

I’m very disappointed. I thought ‘newt’ was a wonderful typo for’new’ to the area, and I was hoping people would be recommending tiny newt clothes.

I thought the OP was an actual newt, wondering how to fit in with all the fashionista newts of Somerset.

The newt is the one on the left. Long coat, low slung trousers and a natty waistcoat.

If you are visiting the gardens and grounds: People wear all kinds of things, shorts and t shirts, summer dresses, just casual/outdoorsy outfits etc. if you are planning on walking to the Roman Villa, it’s a good brisk 15mins and there is not much shade along the track as you walk so if it as hot as it has been 22 c or more, bring a hat. There are water features for paddling for kids. Comfy shoes as if you are exploring the gardens there’s lots of walking.
my recent outfits were summer dresses, backpack, sunnies etc and sandals. Also sports leggings, wellies, t shirts, raincoat. I think you’d stick out wearing tweeds haha

Oh and one of the museums (Story of Gardening)is shoe-free for sensory stuff, they offer socks if you don’t have them.

They have wellies you can borrow, umbrellas too.... I'd say take a waterproof. There is so much to explore outside.

Swimsuit for the pool and spa.

Perhaps a nice frock if you are having a celebration dinner. Low heels or non as the paths are not lit and a bit wobbly.

Apart from that, I wore a plain cashmere sweater and jeans the whole time.

Some people had been out and bought expensive looking Country Gentlman and lady attire. Looked a bit silly to me, unless you own all of that anyway.

Best ice cream I have ever had in the grounds of the outdoor park. Not at all what you asked, but if you’re going to explore the park you’ll want walking shoes/boots,

@Fluffywithteeth Happy Anniversary! I will always take the opportunity to wear something lovely so in your case i'd wear dress. I would not want to wear jeans & trainers for a romantic night / weekend with my husband!

Oops, I had lunch there in jeans, top and merrels that said nobody else was dressed up so hopefully I didn’t commit a social faux pas. Somerset is pretty casual more generally but you can have a few things in your bag to gauge the situation. Overdressing definitely makes you stand out

Box fresh is the expression that comes to mind.

(In fact these people were distant relatives and I happen to know they dont live a remotely country lifestyle, in any case)
